Jonathan is rapidly becoming a natural on camera, and his rapport with Mike is getting along nicely. Very good review and beautiful cinematography!

Just as an aside I notice that the manual door release handles (the white tipped handles) on the hopper wagons are a mixture of some on the left and some on the right of the train. The manual release levers had to be on the left side of the train and it was the Guard's responsibility to make sure that these levers were all on the left of the train at Tyne Dock and if not then the wagons had to be turned. So effectively the wagons were directional. This was so that the manual releases were always adjacent to the walkway on the discharging gantry at Consett as if the compressed air door releases failed then the loads could still be discharged otherwise a return to Tyne Dock with a loaded wagon would have been the result and not cost effective.

Way back in the 60's I used to go to Low Fell to watch those 9F trains heading for the Conset Iron and Steel company.

That would have been an amazing spectacle see see and hear. 😊

Yes! When he lived in Australia the TV show came to film at the railway he volunteer. As a result, he is in 2 of the episodes of series 2. 😁

Stunning looking model of a stunning loco. If ever there was a loco Hornby should release in weathered condition, these workhorses should be it! Really hoping they launch a TT:120 version when that comes 😁
@hornbymag10 ай бұрын
A TT:120 9F is planned from Hornby Model Railways and we can't wait to see it when they eventually launch it. These OO gauge Tyne Dock 9F's are wonderful models indeed. Don't be shy in trying weathering yourself using powders and acrylic paints. Watch our 1960s style Weathering Series on Key Model World for tips and tricks 😊

@@hornbymag absolutely, check out the award winning HighFell here on KZbin to see some weathered TT:120 things (not the locos while they are under warranty) and support line to Consett that runs through the Durham Dales 😁

@@HighFell your layout looks lovely. Your layout could be a wonderful feature in our magazine in 2024. Would you be able to send us a few images of it so we can have a look? Bet these were the hardest worked 9f’s of them all when you see the gradients they had to climb

A really nice loco, mine arrived over a month ago but its smokebox dart was bent due to the packaging. My question is, why is there a divider in the tender's coal bunker? I still need to run mine with the proper wagons. But I see you didn't contact KR Models to get the missing pair of ore loads replaced, as pack B of the first release only came with 2 pairs instead of 3.

Hornby Magazine reviews a Hornby model in a video “Sponsored by Hornby”. Looking forward to this balanced and objective assessment! Joking aside the model looks super, very impressive.

@@hornbymag I'm presuming the original poster was suggesting that this isn't a 'review', as that is a critical assessment. This more of an over-view...
@hornbymag10 ай бұрын
@@locohauledforum we go into full review details in the magazine itself, where we look at all aspects of the model, what drives, it and its build quality. For these 'review' videos on KZbin we aim to give a brief overview of the model and prototype as well as demonstrate how it performs - so essentially the video and the magazine article augment each other 😊
@northernblue109310 ай бұрын
They may augment each other but they are not the same and it is disingenuous to describe the video as a review.

What makes this particular model the Tyne Dock version of the 9F?
@davew245210 ай бұрын
The Westinghouse pumps to operate the doors of the iron ore wagons
@Madonsteamrailways10 ай бұрын
And what was different between a normal 9F and the Tyne Dock 9F?
@hornbymag10 ай бұрын
The Tyne Dock 9F's has a pair of Westinghouse air compressors fitted to the fireman's side, which provided air to operate the doors on the wagons seen in this video. The remained of the 9F's did not have the Westinghouse pumps.
