HMAS Canberra firing 80 round burst

Great video. I was the Chief GB on Canberra from Jan 88 to mid 90. Only 80 round burst I did was when I installed the gun at West Head. Thanks for putting up the video Stones, long time no see. Cheers Bob

As a 5" Gunbuster the markings on those rounds confused me as every second round was a blue... There for a practice round...but it had a yellow high explosive stripe.... Possibly VTNF but at I am familiar with them being blue with brown strip (meaning low explosive)

I'm guessing that it blows air through the barrel between shots for cooling?

Nope, keep the cordite from gassing out the gun compartment. Also the constant water spray coming out near the muzzle does the cooling

Australia needs a carrier , Cavour the Italian aircraft carrier with LHD capability would be a great addition to the Australian navy the Australian navy wants another war ship of about 27000 tones . If we had a ship of that class the F35s from that ship could from time to time when operating with 1 of our new LHDs be stationed ,take off from the LHD ,but refuel from the Cavour class ......just a thought

If a navy is going to have an aircraft carrier it needs to get two carriers to ensure one carrier is available at all times.. That's what makes having a carrier capability so expensive. It is pointless having one.

AdsterAPAD the 2 new LHDs will have American harriers flying from them the first exercise with them as soon as the 2 LHDs are ready the Australian Aircraft carrier visited ports all over the world and it gave our navy personal a lot of training you cant have the training if you don't have the ship to do it from the government wont pay for 2 new ships 1 maybe not 2 .

The only option i see available is the purchase of 9 F35b Vistol aircraft. 3 for each LHD. and 3 in maintenance reserve. Australia is not purchasing any F35 b. It is buying F35 A and that does not have Vistol abilities. Also for every Fighter you put on an LHD you have to remove helicopters and that takes away from the abilities of the ships in conducting amphibious operations. And yes the government will not be buying 2 ACCs any time in the future. So Australia will not have true ACCs
