Its sad that current generation wont be able to continue this folk song way of singing. Very few can even fully understand the meaning of the entire song.

Hey! Just asking as an American folk singer in a city with a big Hmong population (Twin Cities, MN)- why is the younger generation losing this music? Is it an issue of losing the language? Losing this musical scale and style and adopting western popular music, or other new musical styles? I'm asking because I really value immigrant diasporas' musical traditions and want to see how I can help or encourage this metro's several immigrant communities to keep these musical traditions alive. American assimilation have already devoured the folk music traditions of dozens of communities who have moved here.

I think its a funeral song of the passing of their father life and death. I've heard similar during funerals.

I don’t have the best Hmong language speaking skills. This song brings tears to my eyes just like the Hmong songs made just by instruments. Personally for me,I think the Hmong language you can understand it if you’re in alignment with the right trance state of mind. But knowing some basic phrases and words helps too. I wish I had the time to take up the language with classes.
