I believed this story... I have a brother inlaw that told us something similar that happen to his mom... everytime she give birth to a child... that child never live long... it kept happening like 3-4 times and during the burial day for the last child that died... all the elders told the mom that she cant attend the burial because she was crying to much but really... the elders planned that at the burial they were gonna open the coffin and say some really mean words to the baby and for everyone to slap the baby cheeck so that if that baby reborn again they will see the mark on the baby's face. It's so sad.

That’s too sad. I could never allow that to happen to my child (dead or alive). I could lose 10 children and would never allow it to happen.

My ex husband father buried his first wife second child due to having birth and his wife died. My ex husband father thinks it the second child that cause his wife to die so he buried him alive with his dead mother. Sometime Hmong people believe too much on those superstitious. Sad but true story 😢

Entertaining story but it shows how crazy and primitive Hmong beliefs were and some still are. And yes I'm Hmong. There are explanations to everything. Just because we can't explain something doesn't mean it is beyond explanation. For example, Hmong used to call people with seizures as been possessed. A lot of animals died needlessly because Hmong people believe that it will please the evil spirit and make the sick person better. I reality, the person got better because eventually s/he will get better or die. There are only two outcomes when you get sick. Get better or die. So, if the person doesn't die, of course s/he will get better. If you make a lot of blood offerings (animal sacrifices) and the person got better, you said it works. But if the person is very sick and offerings don't work, does this mean the offerings didn't please the evil spirit? No. Blood offerings make you feel better but not the sick person. The sick person got better on his/her own accord not because of the blood offerings. Be logical people. The couples in this story had all the children taken from them. They believe they were been punished because they owed the children something. If there were doctors back then, I'm sure they will find a logical explanation why so many of the children died. If you think about it, back then, a lot of people die due to diseases. Malaria, chorea, all sorts of diseases were rampant. For all we know, it could be chemicals used in the war like agent orange. These are my thoughts. You believe whatever make you feel better about yourselves. But just because you believe in something doesn't necessarily make it so.

I'm Batman It is true that the Hmong people back then did not have access to the same medical technologies that we have today but I think that the old religion is far from what you describe as "primitive." The various rituals that they conduct are actually very sophisticated and structured. I don't think you and I can even grasp the surface of what is really going on during a shamanic ritual. The fact that you describe them as "blood offerings" really demonstrates your lack of understanding. Can modern science explain the what a shaman experiences when he goes into his trance? What about the many cases of personal encounters that many people have described and the real stories that have been told on these channels? The same thing can be said about modern medicine used to treat life threatening illnesses: either you get better or you don't. I think there is still so much more we don't know about the world and there is still much stuff science simply cannot explain today. Not saying I don't believe Advil can't cure a headache, just saying we can't simply brush off things we don't truly understand as nonsense.

TheDavyman i would just like to agree on your comments. the paranormal are beyond simple explains. How do you explained someone who is possess? Do you think they have become mental ill n suddenly went crazy. Some of these folk tales does have some truth behind it. I personally believe there are things in this world or elsewhere in which the human mind can't understand let alone explain it scientifically.
@bvang83709 жыл бұрын
***** I never said it was simple. I merely stating that there are logical explanations. It took decades and sometimes even centuries to find the cause of an illness. Lots of illnesses are still unexplained but I'm sure in time, they will be. The brain is a very complex organ. If you take drugs like PCP, LSD, ecstasy, etc, you can hallucinate and see things that aren't really there? When the people that take these drugs see things, do you describe it as been possessed? I would think not. But to people that don't know, when they see a person hallucinating, they would say s/he was possessed. Does one's belief changes the truth? No. It is what it is. Even in today's day and age, there are still religious fanatics that think earth is the center of the universe or that the sun revolves around the earth.
@bvang83709 жыл бұрын
TheDavyman Are you saying I'm brushing it off as nonsense? I'm definitely not. Hacking a dead child with an axe is not nonsense. Dragging a sick child to death and burying her in a swamp is not nonsense. It is sick and twisted. It shows how primitive people were. If you would to do that today, even if it were to occur in Laos, people would think you're a psycho or mentally ill. Not that the child was possessed but you're the one that's possessed. I, on the other hand, would not use the word possessed. I would say you're mentally ill or on drugs.
@WhyteLis219 жыл бұрын
You don't need to become mental ill or take drugs to see beyond wat you can't understand. Some people are just evil and do very bad things to one and another just because they can. Now are you going to say everyone that does this are crazy too? we are the only specie that can wipe out an entire species of others That's how dangerous us human are.
