HMS Bounty docking in Gloucester, Mass.

The replica ship HMS Bounty sails into Gloucester, Mass. harbor on Friday afternoon, August 31, and in this short video turns herself around and docks at Gloucester Cruiseport's wharf. The Bounty arrived in Gloucester for the annual Labor Day Schooner festival and Schooner races. BTW, the Bounty replica did play a role in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest", serving to fill out the fleet in several scenes.

I was heartbroken to hear the news on the radio this morning, and could only think of how majestic this beautiful ship looked when docking in Gloucester harbor just a few weeks ago. I too am amazed that she would be caught on the high seas by a large storm predicted well in advance, and also hope for the best concerning the two missing crew. Glad for those already picked up by the USCG.

Alas, it is now sunk off of North Carolina. I don't have a clue what the Captain was thinking taking it out ahead of "Sandy". I'm suspect that an inquest will be made. RIP HMS Bounty (II) and hopefully the can find the two missing crew.

Great video. So sad to hear it has sunk. What a beauty! Can you imagine the skill it took to moor it so perfectly?

jgr335mustang - true to a degree. But his was not a working vessel as tall ships were in the past. If it got to Bermuda a week or two later, nobody would have starved. Not to mention, 200 years ago it would have been fully crewed with over 40 people (not 14), including multiple experienced officers and a number of seasoned "top men" in addition to the able-bodied sailors. The captain is the 1 person responsible for the ship. If a ship sinks-the Captain is responsible.

Yes, I was so sad to learn that news, too. The skill I witnessed was remarkable: the crew turned that big ship around 180 degrees in a small space of water and snugged her up to the dock with seemingly casual but clearly expert maneuvers: talk about parallel parking! I was in awe while shooting the video…

I saw two photos of the ship in the storm I hope they find her captain. I have hopes they can probably salvage the ship ,but right now my worry is for her captain. Im so sorry one crew member did not make it.
