The structure seems to be indeed very fragile. I think I flinched at least twice during this vlog. I think in your place I would have created myself all those frames from a 4 mm plywood, just like I actually did for my last model built. Keep going, you will succeed !!!!
@JohnsWoodenShips2 жыл бұрын
The structure is fragile and needs to be careful. It is not a beginners model, i can insure you about that.

Hello John, I saw the unboxing of Endeavour and now I am very curious how you manage with this kind of different set by Artesania Latina. The materials look interesting, so I will see the whole series. I downloaded the instructions to see how they are. There are no plans no 1:1 drawings only assembly pictures, strange enough and then only on CD. I saw the building of the skeleton of the new Victory by Occre, same thing with the 3 part frames, but 1:1 drawings, so you can lie the parts flat on a thicker plastic foil (glue does not stick) on top of the plan and you can place them accurately. Thank you for showing Harry

Hi Harry! When i began to build it i thought that it would be a good one, having in mind the old Artesania. It was not a good one. The CD instructions were a bad choice and the cause was to save money from paper. The coloring made the ship look like it was a plastic one. Eventually it was a cheap Chinese kit that was sold in a higher price than it was worth, like all the new kits of Artesania. OcCre is simple the best company in the field , no comparison with cheap Chinese ones.

I though that the structure would be a mess. But with the supports everything became solid, you just have to follow the instructions, it is different from everything else i ever made.
@peterhiggins33292 жыл бұрын
While the framing appears flexible at the start as pieces are added, it stiffens up to what one would expect. The outcome thous is quite a light weight construction. I do not believe the use of CA is sufficient for the base structure preferring yellow glue myself. My preference however would be solid wood rather than ply...
@JohnsWoodenShips2 жыл бұрын
The CA is only to hold the pieces until the white glue dries. But ofcourse you can use other types of glue as well.

Hi John. Would you think the first cross pieces (deck supports) could have been added to the bulkheads before gluing to the keel? It seems it might have been easier to get the spacing correct when assembling the 3 part bulkheads.
@JohnsWoodenShips2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff! When the decks are in place the structure becomes more solid and all the spacing gets to be corrected.

Lots of small pieces, John. Is it all 3mm so far?
@JohnsWoodenShips2 жыл бұрын
Yes buck, the entire skeleton is 3mm except from the decks that are the usual 2mm.

@JohnsWoodenShips2 жыл бұрын
Hi Normand! Indeed Santa Ana was and still is the most beautiful ship i ever made. Tons of detail and top quality of materials. This one has nothing to do with Santa Ana, it is different, a lot. We will see how it goes, i am not disappointed so far. We have a lot of work ahead!

The skeleton looks too thin & it seems need a lot of re-enforcement before planking!
@JohnsWoodenShips2 жыл бұрын
Hi Herman! This one is different and since i have almost completed the one side of the hull i can tell you that with the reinforcements they eliminate the twisted hull effect. The problem is the 3mm of the skeleton, it needs to be careful over there. The quality of materials so far is very good, not top but good.
