I remember when I built this kit as a kid. I don't think I even painted it, but it always had a special place in my heart. Watching you make the model now, and with such detail, finally makes me feel like it's been completed in my mind. A stunning build - it's all I ever hoped mine would be.

Awesome video/build!!! Tamiya's KGV was my very first 1/350 scale model ship about 20 years ago - wanted to try something different other than 1/35 scale armor. Was fun and interesting to build this ship.

Thanks James! For me its the other way round, i only occasionally build tanks in 1/35 and mostly ships, but tanks are great fun as well, usually its building the whole tank and then painting totally separately, other than ships, which makes tanks much more comfortable to make in my opinion!

I realize this is an old kit, not having built a Tamiya ship in years myself. Im feeling that if they haven't stepped up by now companies like Trumpeter will hurt them due to the fact that they don't include PE parts. I have been building some of Trumpeter's kits and are amazed by the amount of PE the include in their kits.
@funinscale28923 жыл бұрын
Hi george! I think so as well! Modern Tamiya kits cost a fortune, and you get an excellently fitting model kit for the amount of money, but there are never PE parts included as far as i know. Trumpeter, Hobby Boss, Very Fire, all those far east manufacturers, have not the fit of a Tamiya kit, but include much more and have better detail in my opinion! And if everything in a model kit fits like Lego, then you could just make Lego instead!

One day I wanna see a video where you compare all your ships in the same scale
@lazyishardwork3 жыл бұрын
I got one brand new George V, same scale, about a year ago and everything is still in the sealed plastic. I've only opened the box. But I got a 1/350 Titanic which I've made very little progress on, but I won't be bothered to weather the paint. I've built a 1/72 WW2 Tobruk diorama since getting both ships and I'm 3/4 the way through a 1/35 diorama of the wehrmacht invading France 1940. I built a 1/500 scale Hood for one of my sons and still have the same scale Arc Royal to build for my other son. I'd love to get a 1/350 Bismark to go along with my George V. But I'm still in negotiations with myself when I'll finish the Pegasus Bridge diorama I've begun. I still have a 1/400 Cuttysark to go too. With all the stuff I have I've got about 3 years of work ahead of me; and I have plans to build a 3.5m by 2.5m diorama of the Battle of the Bulge. I hate waiting for glue to dry though, waiting for paint to dry is bad enough, so I only use superglue. You only get one shot at placing parts but it gets a helluva lot more done quicker and it teaches you to be more precise. Top video

Hi! That sounds like a lot of ambitious plans you have there, The massive Battle of the Bulge Diorama sounds very interesting! Do you have a particular scenery or photographs in mind?

What kit would you recommend for a first 1/350 Scale build?
@funinscale28923 жыл бұрын
Hi Aidan! I think with a kit from Tamiya, you will have a good time because of the good fit and generally easy and quick building, for example this one, or an Iowa class. But they are expensive, so if you want to try a budget version to get into ships in that scale, you could try out a Trumpeter kit, but the fit might not be as good and they aren't as easy to make. Trumpeter has some modern 1/350 destroyers which all also have PE parts included, you might look into those as well
