My father an old Ventures Live On Stage album. I was hooked! I played that album so often I probably wore a hole in it! These guys were so talented. I wish I had caught them live back in the day.

You can hear Frank Zappa mention this song on one of his records ("Play Caravan with a drum solo"). This song was good to me. Played it at a concert and got hired by a real working band.

Although this is more stageshow than skill in many places (the first use I know of this type of performance was in 1938), Mel Taylor has to be one of the most underappreciated drummers of all time. Of course, almost all his work after about 1970 was in Japan. (He did go out on his own a couple of times.) So he was not exactly part of the main conversation among rock drummers.

Are all these guys the original members? I have many of their albums. Thanks for posting. I worked on that Caravan Solo Myself. Never got it as good. Darn. Ken

@@ricklewis5804 Jerry McGee is not an original member. Bob Bogle usually plays bass, but is not here.
@timblessing2815 Жыл бұрын
@@kokokyoushi The drummers changed several times right when they were first beginning--so there isn't an "original" line-up. Similarly Nokie Edwards started out on base and Bob Bogle on lead, then they switched. Don Wilson was always rhythm to the best of my knowledge. Gerry McGee became Nokie's permanent stand-in and then McGee took Nokie's place--and Nokie became the stand-in--Nokie was probably the "better"of the two--but Gerry was more melody oriented. Sometimes there were keyboards---but most of the time not. It gets confusing.

Mel Taylor has no original drum composition. He always play "Caravan" for exhibition. Gerry McGee plays the bass on this video.

I'll be brutally honest, here -- I didn't think much of this video. Oh, the drumming was great, but that lighting -- UGH. Way too hard on the eyes with all the multi-colored lights rapidly flashing. And when it wasn't doing that, the lighting was much too dim. I wouldn't recommend this video to anyone unless all they wanted to do was simply LISTEN to the performance.
