Wow, day 20 already! Great basement declutter. Acknowledging the small achievements is just as important as acknowledging the major achievements.

It's so good that you share how you're feeling along the way because we can only see what you're doing. Hearing how much you were dreading this declutter and then saying it actually wasn't that bad is so encouraging to others facing a similar doom room. Also, that was a great strategy you gave to pivot to something else if a certain area of the room is overwhelming you.

No after holiday shopping anymore for me. My Christmas decorations including ornaments is in one smallish bin. We do not do presents anymore except for grandchildren (2) across the country- Amazon delivers those. And a great niece and nephew who get cash. It is wonderful!

We do presents for our parents, children and granddaughter only. No more shopping after Christmas!

Clever strategy to work on something else instead of letting overwhelm paralyze you. I have also started doing more of that. It's kept my progress more consistent.

As you completed the declutter phase of this room, I wondered if your decisions became easier/quicker? You weren't looking forward to it :) Had you already pre-decided most of the decisions? I find I do some of that which gets me in the groove faster. I like that you are mainly decluttering instead of trying to declutter and organize and finish. I've been working on our office space all month and it is so slow. Some of the paperwork piles I can actually discard if I summarize the data on a new document - just some details I feel comforted having. Like what happened to certain cows, how much they weighed at butcher, which butcher we used, etc. Then I can get rid of a ton of paper. So - a project. And last week my printer acted so I'm ordering a new drum. Anyway, I get totally stuck in decluttering when I know that if I do a project I can get rid of a bunch of stuff that takes up physical room. (and of course I have many categories of this type clutter!) So, all that to say, I wonder how much of what you saved is some sort of necessary or meaningful project :) oh, and I haven't been commenting, but I am really enjoying this 30 day self-inflicted challenge :)

Hey, Brenda. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It has definitely gotten easier each day and I find I am able to part with things without the “I may need that some day” creeping in. I kind of knew some things ahead of time, like the decor that I didn’t love when it was out before Christmas.

I haven't done after Christmas shopping for 2 years now. In-laws prefer gift cards or money and experience gifts. Relief to not hunt for the deals. Fear of missing out led me to over purchase. I have bows and wrap for years but it's getting used up.

Nice! I feel like a lot of us are leaning into having less so we can do more. Thank you for taking the time to comment! 😁
