As a little background on this clean-out. The house was sold with the contents to a new owner. The new owner was left with a house full of a stranger's possessions and had to figure out how to deal with the mess. Rather than throw everything in the dumpster, they called Eric to help sort through and remove some of the items worth salvaging. That is all I know about this clean-out, unfortunately. I do not know what happened to the previous owners or why their family did not want any of their possessions. It's a sad situation, but Eric and the guys salvaged all they could.

Crazy Lamp Lady I’m sure these kind of clean-outs are not that uncommon. But what is uncommon is the load of really good stuff that you’re finding in this house 🏠

I’m just worried about all of you going through all that mess with no protection. Especially you with your asthma. I have been told that mouse dropping dust can be very toxic. And I’m so happy I don’t have smell-a-vision. I find myself yelling at the tv. Oh no don’t touch that with your bare hands. Eww! And when you turn over some of those large bowls and vases I just know a mouse carcass is going to fall out. Then LampLady is going to hurl a treasure.

When my Mom went to Assisted Living, I had to clean out her house quickly since her house sold the second day on the market. Luckily, she was not a hoarder, but it was a huge amount of work. I would pull everything out of the closets and sort into "Keep, Donate, Toss" piles. I didn't sell her good stuff, because she thinks she may still want it one day. All of the boxes of the "Keep" items are still in my garage and fill up my spare bedroom. I made my brother throw away the mountains of trash bags and a neighbor took the excess furniture for his adult kids! Whew! I was quite a month of cleaning out while still working full-time!

So sad that when we are gone people just dump a lot of stuff as trash. It's good someone is salvaging the stuff you collected. A lot of times stuff just grows then you look around and it is overwhelming so people just leave it cause it is too hard to clean. You are doing a good job. It's still sad.

FYI - Sometimes you do find the "real" deal items at TJ Maxx and stores like that. If it is a quality piece, it is a quality piece. There probably was a maker's sticker under that price tag. Don't always count out those items.

I, too, am cleaning out my family home after the death of my father. My condolences to you. My husband's father passed away a few years ago and my husband brought back everything that his siblings did not want. I can't afford to do that, so I have to be more selective. Because I am so into vintage and history, you can bet nothing of any value will be discarded. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sweet dad.
