Thanks for confirming my decision to buy this kit. Love the weapons in the kit, do not have any already so this will allow me to fit it out and give me options for other I build. great review Phil.

Ducks beak sounds like they got it right to me as that’s a nickname for the su34 and one of the features I like

Buff Phil, first review I have been left torn apart. It looks good, the nose looks right to me too... actually it depends of the angle one looks at it.... but the price is always going to be an issue. Bottom line, if you have the spare cash it's a lovely kit, if you haven't it feels overpriced. Thank you so much for giving us such a good review. Are you thinking of building it soon?

I know what you mean! I'd love this kit, but it's that price barrier! I get Phil's point (not sure if it was on here or a VLOG) that actually the time you spend on a kit this size, then it is good value compared to say going to a football match (I'm a Norwich fan, that's painful). But it is that thing of justifying £100 on a kit in one hit... especially when you can get 3 Academy F-4's in 1/48 for that. Having said that, Hasegawa have just re-released their British Phantom and that's £70 odd quid!

Hi Phil! Really enjoy watching your videos! I noticed you did a review on the kitty hawk su-35 kit a while ago and was just wondering if you actually built it and what was it like as I'm thinking of doing 1 myself?

Basing on your video, the nose looks pretty fine for me. Probably you know that SU-34 has unofficial nickname "Duckling" in Russia exactly because of the specific nose shape. Besides that, I was really surprised with the length of the nose, when I saw real SU-34 on the MAKS 2015 airshow. It usually looks much shorter on photos. By the way, I think that the photo you have on the box cover - doesn't have good proportions at all.

Nice kit...with a sting in the tail..£107 RRP plus a new resin nose and a new Tail boom in resin or PE upgrade if you want to do one of the current 'eggplant' schemed jets as the kit doesn't have either APU inlet/outlet.

I went for the Kittyhawk SU34 and its fussy beast so wondering if I should have gone for this kit. Nose issue aside Kittyhawk has many problems with instructions and fit. Also if you want wingtip ecm pods and centerline drop tank then go HobbyBoss. Kittyhawk doesn't provide them.

Thanks for the SU-34 review Phil. Some food for thought for sure. My own personal view(and I too have the kit) is that the RRP is still too expensive to justify. There are 14 'kit' sprues and 18 optional weapons ones. Surely something is out of whack when the optional sprues outweigh the actual kit ones? I get the point that people want some weapons but surely there was a middle ground HB could go for? Maybe just include a couple of typical Syria mission ones and 2 others unique SU-34 and then sell an optional Russian Weapons pack and reduce the kit price by £30? Was there really any compelling need to put in every single weapons permutation the SU-34 could carry? or was it all about creating publicity over the price and a few extra quid? I got my kit for £90 and yes I will build and enjoy it, but to me the math just doesn't add up. It's not Wingnut wings quality, it's not Tamiya 1:32 quality and throwing in more optional sprues than kit ones and calling it value for money just seems... Well wrong. It just seems like I'm buying a Russian Weapons Set and getting an SU-34 thrown in as an extra. Just my 2c,and as they say opinions are like bums, everyone has one and no intent to offend or kick things off is meant

I liked how Academy molded their Flanker in top and bottom halves and I'm glad HB did the same for the Fullback. Can't wait to get this one in the Russian lineup! Judging by the pictures I've seen, the nose looks fine. It is kind of flattened with a pronounced edge along the side and from your review it looks like they captured that pretty well. (Just wondering, does anyone else think the took an F-111 cockpit and slapped it on the Flanker?) It makes me think that this would have made a better trainer than the Su-27 UB because I think it is better to have the student/instructor side by side.

Very impressive kit, indeed! Hmm, yes, that nose does look a bit on the thin side, I agree, judging by the photos I have seen of the real thing. But still, a great kit, if a tad on the expensive side, AU $185.50 here in Oz!

Great review but still I don't think the price is justified I would expect at least some resin nice photo etch for the cockpit interior masks at least four or five decal options eduards kits such as the F4J 1/48 is a big aircraft and comes with loads of goodies for 60 quid it just doesn't scream 107 quid to me the more I think about its a bit of a rip would like to build it some day.

would you please review the Kitty Hawk 1/48 Su-17 I really love the aircraft but never built anything produced by them haven't heard many positive things about their kits I really hope the Su-17 is a different story

If the weapons are generic the toolling cost should be shared across several kits.

The A2A missile sprues are the same generic modern russian from their other flanker and mig kits. The dumb bombs and MERs are the same sprues from their Su-24, which btw the MER is wrong for both aircrafts anyways. And the A2G missiles again come from their Su-24. Only 1/4 of the weapons are new for the Su-34 kit. You can identify them as they are in their small separate sprues. Those are a pair of KAB-1500Kr and L guided bombs, a pair of Cluster Bombs and a pair of R-172 long range A2A missile but they're not a f#@% ton of them. That being said, I don't see it being enough for a 50 pound hike from a Su-24 which goes for 60 pounds and is of comparable size and almost the same quantity/quality of weapon sprues, just switching out the Su-34's A2A sprues for other 4 sprues of rocket launchers and guided A2G bombs and missiles.

After adding the cost of PE, resin upgrades and paint kit made for this jet. It will put the price closer to 200 usd.

It's definitely a nice kit, but the nose is all sorts of wrong unfortunately. And they lost their minds with the price, the shortcomings wouldn't be so bad if this was a £50 kit...
