Proposal for the dude which likes to power-game. He seems like my type of guy where he enjoys reading deeply into the rules and just look autistically at what he can do mechanically and play with it. A good way to do that and not make overpowered characters is to instead take a usually weak part of the system and try to make it strong like a challenge run. For example, the strongest possible cantrip in D&D, build you character not to be the strongest period, but to just get the strongest possible cantrips that way you will never get too far ahead in power level to the rest of the party but still get to enjoy optimizing your build.

I am the guy, and I actually did this too, an example is I am currently running a ranger(monster hunter) in 5e, we are level 5 and I can drop 8d6+14 per round, although I am building this as a Witcher so am multiclassing artificer. For you North, the reason I build characters like that is because the GM had a tendency to create encounters that resulted in TPK's, like we as a group have played 13 campaigns, only the last 8 we got to the end of the campaigns, but all of these have been played across 13 years.

I'll never understand what this so-called "quality" is that people see in GW's models 3D printers or other model companies can't ever seem to replicate. People always say it's a whole other league, but I'll show them other models that I think are vastly higher fidelity than GW's models, and get told "nah, they're obviously worse" with no elaboration. They keep saying GW's models are the best in the industry, but they're such nothing burgers. Even the new releases have nothing special about them that could be this nebulous "quality" I hear so much about ...

If you don't understand, try taking the time to. It is a clear indication that you've been modelling for about five minutes. Quality refers to the production and not what you think is special about the sculpt design. 3D printers are not at that level of 'quality' and few companies are. It's not long off exceeding it, 3-7 years maybe. I am not going to elaborate further because I can't condense thirty years of experience into a neat paragraph, sorry.

That's the thing. I constantly see prints with higher quality to GW in every objective metric I can find. Crisper detail. Finer detail. Greater ability to handle overhangs. The only thing I could possibly think of is that the people saying GW is higher quality is exactly the thing you think I consider to be quality for some reason: aesthetic.

@@rantymcrant-pants9536 You know GW's masters are 3D printed too, right? And not even to the top of the line, as you can see the striations on some of their models even after they cast them into molds. There are commercially available end-user 3D resin printers that have objectively better final detail capability than GW's plastic models live up to, and that's not even up for debate at this point.

Only way 3D printing isn't in the same league is in surface finish, because of the microscopic layers. The sculpts and possible forms it can take are often higher detail, if stylistically different from the GW, slightly cartoonish model style. I'm not gonna say I prefer the look of a home-printed mini to injection moulded ones, but GW sculpts aren't exactly out-of-this-world good, not compared to what classic scale model companies produce, and have done for the last 10-15 years. Certainly GW doesn't like to do fine edge detail, at all. It's partially stylistic and partially because they're game pieces, not just display models.

That pf build doesnt make sense but i cant remember why. I think in 1st edition your limited by your bab per attacks at lvl 3 its +3 if monks are full bab i dont think so. Also i believe in 1e since synthesis summoner was so og they neft the ammount of attacks you can make, idk if its exclusive to it or all over. At lvl 3 in 1e youd be making 2 attacks using flurry of blows, actually 3. In 2nd edition you make as many attacks as actions you have left. So you can make 4 attacks with ki attack. Natural weapons dont give additional attack in either edition too. If you have feat for 2e such as twin take down you can do 5 attacks but you have to multiclass into ranger for that 1 action feat. Also with both editions duel weilding doesnt give additional attacks but lets you attack in your off hand with no penalties. 2nd edition has feat that give you actions to make 2 hit rolls. Idk how he got 12 attacks at lvl 3 unless he is misunderstanding the fulls. Because in 1st you have to use a full action to make all attacks i.e. whole turn. 2nd edition it would be impossible because feats that make you attack twice are flourishes, you can only use 1 durring your turn.

You can really cheese the shit out of a Pathfinder 1e character. There are so many options across the line that someone with a high degree of systems mastery can come up with some crazy synergies. It has so many moving parts that it's quite possible to do this accidentally. I have done it. In one game, I started out making a rogue. I'll take this. I'll do that. The unchained version works better. That ability would work well with this character. When it was done, I had this terrifying little threshing machine that killed anything in one round. He was immune to mind control so the GM couldn't do that mind control thing on him.

To the power gamer. I saw you mention your GM has a history of killing the entire party. Making a super hero character in an attempt to thwart the GM from wiping the entire party is not the solution to this problem. Next time the GM pulls a crap move like that you and your fellow players need to all tell him that you're not enjoying the game and he needs to change his party slaying ways. Killing a party because they are competing for the Darwin awards is fine but the scenario you are painting makes me think this has become some sort of warped competition between you and your GM to see who is "better" at the game at the expense of everybody else. If you and your GM can't change your ways you're going to end up very miserable in the end.

If you can get that powerful you really should and so should everyone else including the DM, a few small encounters inside the castle walls you breeze through and then your party breaches the castle doors as the splinters and dust settle and the fog parts, your party stands infront of the army of darkness. For the first story they were playing Pathfinder, not D&D. I know they’re similar but Pathfinder is much crunchier and over the top than D&D and shouldn’t be compared to coddling that 5E is. The DM in his story was kind of a dick for doing that knowing he was holding his punches and instead punished the dudes wife. At the end of the day the DM has the power to say whether a hit lands on him or not and sounds like he was poor at scaling his encounters appropriately.
@grimgar30482 жыл бұрын
i agree with this, pathfinder is an established system that encourages creative combinations in feats, class abillities etc but there will always be certain members of a RPG group with better system knowlege than others with a mind to maximise. This aside, imo the DM should never have allowed this character in the group in the first place and the fact that some people think it was good that the DM "punished" the party for me is moronic and goes against the spirit of the game - everyone should be having fun, and these sort of situations should be ironed out before session 1 (especially as this person was known to power game) Personally, character creation is a collaborative venture that where each player works with the DM to design and flesh out a character for a campaign - this mitigates the risk of power imbalance and also helps craft characters that fit the world they exist in
