The only thing I do not understand is chaining 3 for a double crochet. It's a double not a triple. You always have to pull up a loop, do not count that as a move. Pull up a loop, then start your double crochet. Chaining 3 for a DC never made sense to me and always left longer, stunted turns on regular crochet, where the chain 3 was too long and bulged out the side. I started chaining 2 shortly after I started crocheting and have done it since. It's just the way I do it, try it before replying. You might find your work looks better.
