Thanks guys I'm heading to shed to reconfigure some planes. Can't wait for the rest of the series. A great series.

SUPER video.. few people in this hobby make this kind of effort to share information, make knowledge accessible and help others succeed. Kudos (again) to you Michael, not only for your always-superb flying, but for sharing your insight and knowledge. I cannot tell you how much your videos have helped my own 3D flying.. mahalo always!

What a great concept... Just read on the rc groups thread someone said they saw wargo hover and seemed like no input. Thought it was a thrust angle trick. He said it was more iike continual small inputs and relaxing. This is the kind of information that changes the way we fly! AWESOME.

Great info... I'm a self-admitted "Travel-adjuster" :) .... the servo discussion brings back the old adage, "waste not want not" only for RC. LOL... thanks Matt, Michael, and Jose!

Thanks, I am glad you liked the video... But I can say, the radio has surprisingly nice gimbals. It is very smooth and feels very high quality. I was a bit shocked that it had every bit the same feel as my rather expensive radios. IT has 6 channels which is plenty for 3d. It also has mixing and other advanced functions.

Remember, you will still need to use the radio. The optimum setup wil have your travel adjust above 100%. On spektrum over 125% is optimum. Rememebr though... Travel adjusts is Not Rates. DO NOT SET TRAVEL WITH RATES. ONly do that after end points are established.

I know this is an older video but something that needs to be pointed out, torque ratings for servos are at 90 degrees, an instant torque reading might increase with deflection but the torque value will decrease. Torque values are always measured 90 degrees to the center of the lever.

Very important, power setup. Prop, motor, esc. I like two to one ratio on foamies and three to one ratio on balsa but keeping in mind the weight and cg. Larger motor is equal more nose weight. I compensate the extra weight with smaller battery and moving my battery back to get the cg right. 90% of my build the suggest factory cg are wrong. Its just a suggested CG.

Hi Matt...I've got my order list going and would love to have the parts list and possibly setup details as well. I have access to a 300'x300' hangar and am excited about learning this, but I too want to start with the same plane Michael does his magic with. Thanks guys! Doug

I wasn't referring to percentages used. I understand there only hand waving numbers to try explain the point. For a good explanation of servo setup google "Jason Priddle Servo setup". Also remember that torque is force x length and doesn't change with distance along the servo arm, only the force changes.

The EPP profile plane is the Piaget. - Matt
@MichaelWargo11 жыл бұрын
Please understand the percentages used with Torque and things were to illustrate the point. Although it is calculable, really unnecessary to illustrate the point. We tried to simplify. Longer the servo arm and further away from the center of the servo, the lower the torque. The further the servo can travel, the better the resolution. ONly point trying to make. you can send me a private message if you want to explain more, etc...

You want full throw on both servo and Tx so make endpoint adjustments by placing tie rods in the correct position on the horns. Simple enough.

Are there links/sku's for the planes in this vid? specifically the EPP one on the far right. I can't find it browsing the Hobbyking site. Also, what's the difference between EPP and EPO and is either like Depron? Thank you.

Now I know why I s u c k at 3D flying ... I'm using the "wrong" model ... Can't wait for the next videos. I hope you guys touch on the "almost stall" setup to make the model more responsive as well ... then there's the motor/prop, then the battery, then how to actually fly 1 2 3D.

I don't want to be a pain but I have a suggestion, why you don't start from the airframe? After you pick the airframe you need a motor, esc, and propeller. Lots of pilots specially the newbies have problems choosing the correct setup. It will be very useful. I always have lots of questions at our field about motors, esc, and props.

I wish these people would get their units right! Torque is oz-inches, ft-lbs, Nm etc, not oz. When you use too small a servo lever arm, the torque of the servo is the same, but its push/pull force on the pushrod is reduced. Wish I could fly like him, though!

It seems like what you are saying here is to take some time and set the plane up right. if you don't set it up right, you are not going to get the plane to fly to its potential. My take is that flying the maneuvers is hard enough without challenging yourself with a poorly set up airplane.
@JohnFHendry8 жыл бұрын
Be of extreme value if Michael were to set up each HK 3D plane and post the specs so we have an expert's opinion on each planes setup (that are SO often wrong)... that makes sense and works best... with best HK motor... weight and KV, ESC, prop, battery, servo. Wow wait a second... look at 10:17... Michael Wargo is a "dually"! He's using his thumb on the left stick and pinching on the right stick. Cool... I'm sure if he keeps practicing in America that right hand will fix itself;-)

I have flown the first plane and I thought it was a heavy plane for 3D. It was okay but not my favorite. Please list the names of the planes in the comments above so viewers can easily locate them at HobbyKing. I am interested in the third plane and do not know which one it is.

The reason for my KZbin post is to ask the RC community to review and comment on my case, I do not mean to ruin anyone's name or reputation; this is my last resort. I recently bought this MB339 from Michael Wargo on Feb 1st, 2014, for $2500 which he had advertised on the RCuniverse web site as "ready to fly, and in great condition" -- all I need is to install a receiver. Nineteen days later I received the crate from him. The shipping crate was in normal condition with no sign of damage, dents or holes in the box. When I opened the crate could I smell gas coming from inside the crate. After carefully removing the jet from the crate, I immediately noticed the right wing tip was badly damaged. After completing a thorough inspection, I found that the center of the wing had a crack about 4 inches long, and there was another crack along the hull of the wing. The left side of the wing tip showed that the wing had been scrapped against asphalt; either on take off or landing of the jet. On the top of the wings, right above the landing gears, there are two pieces of black tape -- when removed, the tape shows a puncture hole through the wing panel. Inside the wing there is sand mixed with fuel. One of the main gears shows a repair with welding that has been painted black to cover the welding marks. The landing strud that is mounted to the landing gear has lot of play and is not bolt tied. Moving on to inspect the fuselage I what shocked to see that all the wood formerly around the fuel tank was broken in pieces and the fuel tank was hanging down inside. The nose landing gear was bent about 30-40 degrees. There was fuel spilled all over the fuselage and caused a bad smell. I also found three packs of Life batteries and two of them are in an unsafe condition due to the cells being puffed up and swollen. The GSU that is used to program the turbine engine and the cable and lock clip are broken and giving bad contact to the ESU unit. Because of the condition of the jet I have no way to test all the electronic components -- the retract system and the turbine engine; therefore, the condition of these components are undetermined at this time. I have attached copies of all the emails, text messages of our conversation and photos for you to review and comment. I would appreciate any feed back and/or comments from the RC Community for this case. Thank you very much for your time.
