I just mounted the 21-inch rail to my new Compass. I placed it further back so the tackle box is sitting right to my side, I can also slide it backwards if I am paddling more. I used the rod holder mounts to get in there which was difficult to manipulate a rachet in that small hole and I did lose one screw and had to head out to Home Depot to find it. With that install, I used putty to hold the washers to the rachet because that was the only way to get in there. It took some time. In the middle this gives my storage solution a better placement, the rail system sits between the crossbars I sit the kayak on. Good video. You need to get your confidence up before drilling into a new kayak. I'll wait for the 8" round storage in the front.

... I like your use of the aluminum plate I'm a belts and suspenders kind of guy too... I had a kayak where I couldn't reach underneath to secure the backer plate when I was trying to install some items so I simply cut a coin sized slot (narrow side size) then attached the aluminum plate to a fishing line and dropped it in and pulled it up tight with the fishing line and then attached my items with screws...this technique was a life saver and it actually worked really well

Nice install video. Clean and simple without unneeded fillers. Keep up the good work sir. Subscribed 🙂

What if you put that rail right beside the seat? So you can still make use of that tracks.
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
geronimo gacutno some guys have put them there. I like them up front so I can mount my Lowrance unit and my rod holders when trolling. I'm not a fan of track mounts, so I don't mind covering them.

Great install, love the backer plates, I probably would have added a dab of sealant on the screws too. Thanks for sharing w us!!
@TimPercyKayakFishing4 жыл бұрын
Yes sealant is a great extra measure. Given that it's on the top and the way it's sloped, water getting into the hull was never an issue....I believe I used marine goop when I installed them on my PA's.

Do you think there is enough space for the PA h-rail length to fit or you think it would get in the way of the rudder handle?

Nice install. Can you carry the kayak with that?
@TimPercyKayakFishing3 жыл бұрын
Yes, adding the backing plates gives it enough support to carry the kayak with the H-Rails.

That aluminum backing is such a good idea. Do you sell them?
@TimPercyKayakFishing4 жыл бұрын
Sorry but no. I just made these for this install

Did you seal the screw area with silicone or is that needed?
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
Wm S it shouldn't be required in that area, but you can if you like.

Is the h-rail strong enough to grab during recovery?
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
David Bone The way I installed it with the aluminum plates under neither should give it lots of strength.

Can you still use the tracks? Too narrow right?
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
Aliex Fishing TV No, I don't think I can fit anything in there. I don't see me needing to use them with all the H-Rail accessories.

Are the normal gear tracks plastic or metal?
@TimPercyKayakFishing4 жыл бұрын
They make both, but I go with metal.

nice job , can i ask why you have a compass and a PA ?
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
The Compass was my light weight quick setup, I use for some basic fishing like when I go out for walleye...I need limit tackle and only two rods.
@grahamhines29946 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim , i am actually trying to choose between the two at the moment , car topping ability being the main plus fot the compass , anything you could highlight between the two eg wieght carrying capacity ?
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
The Pro Angler is my go to, I really enjoy the extra space. I actually sold the Compass and planned on getting a new Outback as my secondary, but I'm going to hold off until Spring. I have a 2019 Pro Angler that I'm planning my next rigging series on...I'm just waiting on a few pieces. If your only option is car-topping, you may want to consider an Outback, but if you can put a trailer hitch on your car and pick up a used Seadoo trailer for cheap...and you have the ability to store it somewhere; my first choice would be a Pro Angler.
