Everything is compared to the outback for a reason. I put my behind in every competitor i could. The outback just flat out beats them all. Turning, coasting, cruising and paddling. The drive is absolutely a winner. The 2020 outback has the 180 drive with kick up turbo fins. It just cuts through the water like a knife. Yes it cost me a bit more. Its an investment in myself. If you're able to eat Ramen for a couple months, get one! If you can't wing the $3k for one, look into a compass. Gets you the 180 with turbo fins, adds up to a few hundred more than the vibe with drive, but absolutely worth it too.

Same reason they used to say "rides like a Cadillac!" Its their own fault they got rid of the ride quality that built their company into a legend... but that's a different deal. I agree completely on the Hobie. I am still on the fence but think I want a pedal yak next... I've had sit ins, sit on tops, and job boats and bass boats...and of course, I'd never be without at least one canoe... but after years of looking at all of them, I still think the Hobie would be my choice. Something to be said for going with the market king.

lmao at the 'rona fish name. Also that's a fascinating way of 'descending' fish, never seen it before. I don't have experience in the deepwater reefs in my east coast inshore terf and always assumed those deep fish were 'just keep em or they'll die anyway' (abiding regulations of course) . Awesome to see as a primarily C&R angler. I'm hoping someone will come up with an improved rudder, maybe just an extension from the bixpy mounting screws. And especially because the added weight would help the rudder drop under it's own weight, which I've been having trouble with. Fun video, subbed.

@jonathanmorton74762 жыл бұрын
@@EdubOutdoors yea but you put turbo fins and upgraded the hobie. Have you done any upgrades to the shearwater? I don't own either but that hobie is likely a full grand more than the shearwater. Thats enough monetary difference that I could buy a really nice standard kayak to go with my maxed out shearwater.
@EdubOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Yeah there's a reason it's a 1000 bucks more better built Kayak... the Hobie will turn circles around the Shearwaters 125 with the same drive... the shearwaters is a nice Kayak but I'll take a Hobie anyday of the week... I've tested both in th Ocean,Rivers and lakes you get what you pay for
@jonathanmorton74762 жыл бұрын
@@EdubOutdoors So where does the sheer water fail then when compared to the hobie? I know you mentioned turning radius in the video, but it would be nice to point out specifically where the $1000 value add is found? Is it that much faster, more stable, more comfortable, durability etc? While the Hobie may be better built if it doesn't outperform at a level that matches $1000 price difference then it's hard for some to justify the cost. I've seen reviews saying the shearwater rudder could be updated to make it steer better but have never driven either. I'm actually considering moving from my standard kayak into a pedal driven one which is why I'm asking. the hobie looks nice, but I'm also looking at the sheerwater, and old town pdls as well. The latter 2 both are much better price points than the hobie. I also saw a video of a hobie outback taking on water when hitting some surf areas which was odd, but I'm not expecting to really use in that type of setting.
