Thanks for the run down Chris. I really need to lighten my load. Most of my extraneous gear come in the form of tackle that I never use. Also, surprised you don’t carry a bilge pump. I have one strapped in inside the hull just in case.

Good point Julian. I do usually have one onboard, I forgot to mention that. For off shore trips definitely. I use it when I have a bait tank malfunction as well hahaha. I'm pretty aware of when water gets in my hull, but there are always unforeen things and weather that can come up. You gotta save some weight capacity for when catch them donkeys boi! Cheers

Epic timing as I’m just today starting to set up my mirage. TYVM for your expert insight. I have an unrelated question regarding Dropper loop / reverse Dropper loops. What determines when to use one or the other ? Thanks again Chris
@chrisblevinsfishing
@chrisblevinsfishing 3 жыл бұрын
Reverse DL I use for fishing medium to larger greenbacks. Very lively and energetic baits. Also with RDL i will be dropping it on sonar marks more than doing long drifts. Traditional DL I will use for smaller, maybe weaker baits such as sardines, spanish, or small greenbacks. I will also only use a regular DL for live squid. I recommend the spider hitch knot over the "dropper loop" knot for all these applications. Also a 3 way swivel works well too, but tying the RDL with spider hitch is by far the fastest and strongest way. Thanks for watching Mark!

Score if you can fish that much when you're down you will have a solid shot at getting a good bite. Don't forget about the afternoons too, sometimes the YT bite can be much better in the PM. Cheers Justin!

Chris Blevins thanks for the tip man I was going to do a couple sundowns for sure. Was out at the Coronado’s last weekend hooked up three yellows popped the hook on one and the seals got the other two .

Oh man that sucks haha those dogs down there are insane. The dogs in LJ aren't usually as bad. But that's part of the reason I put a lot of pressure on the fish and try to get them up quick. Fighting them for 20 minutes gives a lot of time for the dogs to find them or them to find the structure. I usually get them up in about 3-5 minutes with 40-50# gear.

Thanks for the video Chris. When in use , how do you attach your kill bag to the yak?
@chrisblevinsfishing
@chrisblevinsfishing 3 жыл бұрын
I have a couple of stainless carabiners that I attach to the hatch bungies. Also I will put it in the back sometimes, especially in bigger surf when I need the center of gravity towards the stern. Thanks for watching Graham!

Thanks for the rigging tips! recently bought a PA 14 myself. I've paid some dues getting her out of the surf zone though. just curious, do you pedal straight out and use your rudder or do you get your paddle out depending on size of the surf.
@chrisblevinsfishing
@chrisblevinsfishing 3 жыл бұрын
Pretty much exactly what you said. I put the drive in and rudder down in thigh deep water and just punch it. I will use the paddle occasionally, but in bigger surf like you said. Mostly I use the paddle to keep perpendicular to the wave and in the inside zone then I will punch it with the drive when I see the lull I want. Thanks for watching Lee.
