The unfortunate happened and the inside of the scupper cracked. Been using the scupper cart for about 4 years with zero issues until now. Not here to discourage anyone from using a scupper cart, just sharing my experience. I was in a hurry and cut a turn on the walkway to the beach, my right wheel smacked the wooden curb pretty hard and I believe that's how it cracked. Didn't realize it until I got back from fishing. Went offshore for about three hours and when I got back I had about 4-5 gallons of water inside the hull.

As an added precaution, wrap the inside with rubber backed aluminum ac insulation tape. Wrap all the scuppers with it!

Nice job nice video thanks for sharing!!! I think that if you use this special welder that they use for car's plastics with that zig zag wire should add more mechanical strength on your welding job... Best regards from Hellas (Greece)

Joe Rizzo did a fantastic job with the weld. It’s still going strong. Yes the scuppers are “reinforced” but not enough because I did see this as a common problem and it was a matter of time before it did happen to mine. I will accept some fault by not being more cautious when pulling the kayak on the scupper cart.

Thanks for posting this. I have an older Hobie and was considering this same situation. I saw that you were using the scupper cart at the and of the video. Are you still using it?

I got away from the scupper cart just because I feel it compromised the integrity of the scupper structure. I now have a wilderness systems cart and it gets the job done although I'd still prefer the scupper cart. I never had any issues until this day when I accidentally rammed the cart into a curb.

Hi I have the same problem in a 2019 outback, good video I do the same soon, do a rear hatch and sold the crack, you crack look from the bottom? The water gets inside the hull?

Your 2019 might still be under warranty depending on when you purchased it. Reach out to your nearest dealer and see if they can file a claim. I know the 2019s had quite a few issues with cracking so they might even take your claim even thought your kayak may be out of warranty. The crack was just in the center of the scupper. Water got in from in between the scupper reinforcement sleeve and the hull. With the heat and kayak in motion I believe that area flexes and creates a tiny gap to let water in if the scupper is cracked.

@@oafishing jeje Im in México that kayaks is passed from Usa and sell to us, logic with no warranty and sell as used, its fine conserved, 10 months with the hobie, one friend sells to me, I do the same thing you do, make a hatch in the back and sold it from both sides, sorry for my english

@@EddieRuizFishing Ah, ya entiendo la situación. La garantía si queda con el Kayak aunque haga cambio de dueño pero desafortunadamente no creo que hay distribuidor de Hobie en Mexico. Con la soldadura el kayak queda bien. No hay problema con el ingles, así aprendemos y entendí todo.
