If you go to a boat store, you can usually get an emergency rope ladder that folds up into a neat package for attaching to the front of your boat. If you are not near a store, just look up emergency ladder on EBay and you will find a number of different ladders. All you need is a short rope ladder with plastic steps. If the ladder is too long, just cut off sone of the rungs. All you need is for it to go down far enough into the water to get your foot onto

How does a wave compare to other cats to upright- I grew up sailing monohulls and zero on cats- thought of getting something for my 21 yo daughter - she’s all of 110 lbs and would usually have friend with but didn’t know how much weight and effort to right these things- this looked easier than more classic hobies? Are these harder to capsize than other cats?

I always wear a tether attached to the trampoline. This acts like an anchor when the boat pitchpolls. Otherwise, the Hobie Wave will sail away from the person in the water even when capsized sideways.

While I see the point and understand that some people do this, I don't like it. I don't think it is safe to be tied to the boat. In my experience with my 14 turbo (with a mast head float), the boat doesn't sail away after capsize. This is only really possible if it is blowing hard, the boat will drift downwind. If it is light, conditions where your boat wouldn't capsize if you fell off, you should always have a hand on the mainsheet and hang on if you do fall off. If you're not hanging on, that's just poor technique - It's like driving a car while sitting on your feet...

@@haydenm.3912 Tethers are pretty common for sailors who sail alone. My tether is not a short rope, it's a throw bag and 30 ft floating line for whitewater kayaking or rafting designed to save lives in rapids. One end is tied to the stern of the boat and the other to my life jacket. If you sail the Hobie Wave on the Ocean or in the Great Lakes, the mast float keeps the sail of the lightweight Hobie Wave above the water after it capsizes. The boat will blow away at a much faster speed than you can swim leaving you stranded in the middle of the lake or ocean. This happened to me and is very dangerous. The tether I am using is not dangerous, but I appreciate that everyone has a different comfort level. I think the Hobie Wave only weighs about 240 lbs. The sail and the upright trampoline cause it to sail away on its side.

I am talking about heavy 20 kts + winds. I don't sail the Hobie Wave in any winds less than 15 kts.

Wearing a normal life jacket. Only sail in summer so sea temp is pretty nice . Not sure of temperature
