Oh man, we use hundreds of bails if not a couple thousand, thats 4,000 strings, I have garbage bag full for random tying, and even have tossed many into a dumpster. We use the bales of straw spread on our blueberry fields as fuel to burn in the spring to prune the plants back to ground level to spur new bud growth. we get a crop every other years. Anyway, when we cut the strings we cut them at a knot, its a bugger to have the knot in the middle of the string. Again, the leaves are a nice idea, ultimate debris shelter.

Climbers and sailors often have different names for the same knot. They are two distinct but sometimes overlapping fields of knowledge and customs.
