Scenic mountain tour (T4+) from the Kanzelwand via the Walser Hammerspitze to the Hochgehrenspitze (2253m).
In parts there are climbing sections up to grade II (UIAA), but these are very short. Otherwise a very exciting ridge trail with fantastic views of the Allgäu main ridge. Up to the Walser Hammerspitze, the trail is still very popular, but shortly afterwards a sign indicates that the rest of the trail is no longer marked and is only suitable for experienced people, so you are often on your own on this part.
All the important info and key points are in the video.
Tour facts:
Start: Kanzelwandbahn summit station
Route: 7 km
Time: 4.5 - 5 hours
Altitude difference: 620m
Difficulty: T4+, UIAA II
Character: very exposed path, no fear of heights and sure-footedness are compulsory, very demanding in terms of orientation, generally only recommended for experienced mountaineers.
Please note the departure times of the Kanzelwand cable car.
On the way back, you can take the somewhat easier but longer path down through the valley instead of following the ridge path from the beginning, this variant is also shown in the video.
Note: The Oberstdorfer Hammerspitze can also be climbed, but the climbing sections then move up to grade III according to UIAA, the route is much steeper and more exposed.
