White people definitely say it plenty (I'm white) but I think it is safe to say that the term started with black people. It's just gotten more popular in culture and media so everybody says it now.

Coming from a past abusive relationship myself, I agree. Therapy is very important. It sounds like she was being abused and the reason she allowed him to give her a disease twice is BECAUSE she was being abused. She needs therapy and to cut her losses. It sounds like the entire family is fucked up and her child doesnt need those kind of people around him or her. Take the check and keep it moving.
