Welcome to this week's AMT-John Deere Livestock Price Review, your go-to source for the latest insights on weaner calf prices, lamb prices, goat prices, and poultry prices. In this episode, Dr. Johnny van der Merwe covers recent trends and forecasts in the livestock market.
🔍 Key Highlights:
Weaner calf prices dropped sharply by 2.5% to R31.29/kg, mirroring trends from 2018.
Feeder lamb prices increased by almost 2%, currently at R41.59/kg.
A2/3 carcass price rose to R55.65, while C-grade prices fell to R42.63/kg.
Large goat prices climbed to R52.67, with small goat prices surging by 30% to R64.02/kg.
Poultry prices: Frozen at R34.32, fresh at R33.51, and IQF at R29.24.
📅 Price Forecasts:
A-grade meat prices could rise, possibly trading below R60 in September and October.
C-grade meat expected to stay between R42 and R43 until then.
Goat prices traditionally peak by early spring, indicating potential rises in the coming months.
🌍 Regional Insights:
Mpumalanga weaner calf prices dropped to R31.
Western Cape prices remained stable at R31.
Central Free State lamb prices rose to R42/kg.
