Hi. How does sound that Beatle bass with distortion and fuzz ? Is this bass similar to the original one? Is that neck very thin ? ,is similar to the Thunderbird bass neck or more thinner ? Thanks

I never use fuzz and distortion with a Bass and cant now try it as I sold the Bass years ago. The Bass was the cheap Chinese made version so no it wasnt similar to the original made German one because it das a poly finish for a start. The neck was thick I've never played a thunderbird so cant compare.

Hi Tony Smith. I just bought a Chinese made Hofner bass and it sounds very well, I love its deep sound! But the problem appeared when I had to change the bass strings for the first time! I couldn't put the floating bridge back in its original position and I had to take it back to the store where I bought it. They finally corrected the bridge position and it sounds well again. Then, a friend of mine has a Hofner bass too, but in order to avoid this problem I've already mentioned, he had the Hofner bridge glued by a professional luthier and guess what! The problem of the Hofner floating bridge bass was over! My friend has had this modified Hofner bass for around five years and ha hasn't had the bridge problem any more!!

That is a solution!I hope they used hide glue though and set the intonation right before they glued it.

Hi Tony, as far as I know, they used high quality glue which did not affect the bass sound and the bridge position on the bass is perfect! That would probably be one kind of solution for these incredible basses!

Why don't you change strings one by one. It's faster to tune bass and you won't have problems with floating bridge

Yes, Tony but my error was to change all of the strings immediately and I couldn't return the bridge to its original position! I'm seriously thinking about doing what my friend did. I mean, to have my Hofner bass floating bridge glued by the luthier my friend went to!

@@anabanana4627 You don't have to. The distance between nut and 12th bar is exactly the same as between 12th bar and bridge. So you can do it very fast

Hello! I have a question with the action. The manufacturer says 3mm in bass and 2mm in treble. But that way I find it uncomfortable to play ... very high.... What action do you have? Thank you!

One question, what did you do to the little paper under the bridge? Did you get rid of it or you still keep it there? What's the purpose of it?

You need to remove it because it is placed there by the manufacturer so that the bridge doesn't scratch the body in transit. If you don't remove it the foam will hamper the transfer of sound and vibration through the body. Before removing check intonation and if its correct you need to mark the position of the bridge (with a marker pen that can easily be wipped off) because it will effect the intonation, (if it has been set up properly by the manufacturer), if you do not replace it in exactly the same position you found it.

The contemperary is nice, but the ignition is the real beatle bass. It's hollowbody and the contemporary is not, it's semi-hollow, it's got a wooden center bloc inside the body and thus IMO it cannot produce the original sound from the Beatles albums, 1963-66. They say the contemporary is an improvement from the ignition, but how can it be better than the bass the real Paul Maccartney played? So go with the ignition! It also cost less...

Superb bass for the £230 I paid new. Sounds and looks like the German version. Excellent fit and finish. All I did was change the strings to Hofner flatwounds.

I bought mine in Hong Kong at Tom Lee Music. I converted the price into Cdn dollars and concluded it was a good price considering German-made Paul McCartney models can cost around $2000. I had to test it at the store if there was any neck dive. There was none. The Epiphone Viola bass has severe neck dive. I had to pack it very carefully and paid extra luggage fee flying back to Toronto. I'm happy with my purchase but every now and then I wonder if the body shape is slightly different from the 500/1s.

Mine came in new looking rough. The fretboard was a bit chewed up with the frets were not laid in well. The tape over the pickups came with a glue residue and the pick guard looked like it cost 30 cents. Was yours like this as well?

Good video and very fair. I had one and changed the strings to flat wound. But it lost something of its brightness. Flat wounds are good for the Beatles authentic sound but they do make it a duller guitar. But that's just my opinion... By the way the pick ups are great.

You can use roundwound strings if you want to. Just use a decent set, which the factory supplied ones aren't.

Is the neck any comfortable on that bass? Do most of these models come intonated perfectly??

You have to intonate the guitar yourself, it doesn't come well intonated. The wooden bridge needs the some protective material removing which is in place to stop the wood scratching the top of the guitar when its in transit from the factory. The neck is comfortable to play.
