Hog Heaven Wreck, Scuba Diving Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Hog Heaven is a 180-foot barge that lies upside down in 64 feet of water. While traveling to be sunk as an artificial reef, this ship flipped upside down. The barge was owned by Western Contractors Company of Iowa and was sunk in 1986. In 1988, a dredge pipe and concrete bridge beams were added to the site to help foster the formation of an artificial reef. In the same area is the 70-foot barge, Wayne, about 200 feet northeast. (N26 08.102 W080 04.833) The remains of the Pacific Reef Lighthouse are also nearby. This debris was sunk in 1989 to form an artificial reef.

@@DapperCut I've dove it numorus times over the years. I didn't hear anything about that, I always was diving off a charter boat well except for once a couple years ago I dove it off a private boat

hog heaven yet not a single hog. so sad, now I see why fwc is cranking up the regs on hog fish

I think hog heaven was the name of the barge

yeah its the name of the dive site as it appears on most maps but I always wondered if that used to be an actual hog heaven.

It is a shame, people did hunted it out. It is a tasty fish :-), but now it VU conservation status. I ran in into 1 underwater in last two years. I have it in one of my ft lauderdale diving videos.
