Hogenakkal water falls is in South India on the Kaveri river in the Dharmapuri district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.It is located 180 kms from Bangalore and 46 kms from Dharmapuri. Sometimes referred to as the "Niagara Falls of India", it is known for bathing areas and coracle boat rides, projecting itself as a major tourist attraction. Carbonatite rocks in this site are considered to be the oldest of its kind in South Asia and one of the oldest in the world.The Government of Tamil Nadu made a proposal to convert the falls into providing drinking water for the state.
HOGENAKKAL FALLS
The Kaveri is considered to form at Talakaveri in the Brahmagiri hills in the Western Ghats of south India and gathers momentum as the land drops in elevation. It becomes larger as various tributaries feed into it on the way down.At Hogenakkal, the Kaveri, now a large river, drops and creates numerous waterfalls as the water cuts through the rocky terrain. In places the water falls as much as 66 ft and is said to sound like continual thunder.Soon after the falls the river takes a southerly course and enters the Mettur Stanley Reservoir. The river carries sediment which makes the downriver land fertile. Whirlpool damaged mountain portion in Hogenakkal Falls in Tamil Nadu.At Hogenakkal the river spreads out over a wide area of sandy beaches, then flows through to the Mettur Dam.
CORACLE RIDE
Boating in Hogenakkal is allowed during the dry-season as the water falls are not strong enough to disrupt the passage of the boats. This is the main source of income for these boat operators.Coracle is basically a circular local fishing crafts made of bamboo and tar (to make it waterproof). one boat that includes maximum of 4 people.

BEST TIME TO VISIT HOGENAKKAL FALLS
Anytime after August till March is the perfect time to witness the falls in its pristine self. From April-Mid July the river has less water, there are hardly 2-3 falls.
After monsoons the coracle ride is closed when the water level is high but to witness the falls will be an experience in itself.
HOGENAKKAL FALLS MASSAGE
There were a lot of oil massage guys who were walking around with an oil bottle and asking to use their massage service. And trust me, a lot of people take the message also.

HOGENAKKAL HANGING BRIDGE
The protracted lockdown of the hanging bridge in Hogenakkal has come to dampen the spirit of tourists, particularly in the face of long weekends and the lack of recreational diversity in the tourist spot.The hanging bridge leads to the rock-head overlooking the five falls.
Timings: 8.00 am to 6.00 pm
The hanging bridge will be closed for tourist during peak monsoon period.
HOGENAKKAL CINE FALLS
At present the Tamilnadu Afforestation Project (TAP) was completed and currently the council is managing the cine falls and watch tower.
Tariff : Rs.10/- Per person.
Best season : monsoon season
Touristers are allowed only till 5 PM
HOGENAKKAL COOKING
The fresh fish cooked by the locals is known to be delicious and a must try.
HOGENAKKAL ISLAND
Hogenakkal coracle ride will take you to a place downstream where a small island of sandy beach is seen. Though it is small island, during the dry season, you can observe several tented shops that sells small eats. On the other side of island, you can see the Karnataka side of Hogenekkal falls coracle ride.

Been to this place last week.. it was closed due to monsoon season.. coz water level was high.. here water looks clean.. but when I visited water was muddy n dirty .. whole area was stinky with fish .. place was unhygienic.. n extremely crowded .. everything was over prised.. no hotels for food.. each room cost 1000 rs for an hour .. extremely hot can't stand out for 10 minutes.. really was not at all like the video shown.. I will never visit again..wasted money for the whole journey.. to see nothing..
