Ok, I’ve watched several secrets of HL videos now, and NONE OF YOU mention the Daily Prophet! In Hogsmead, in the main square in front of Honeydukes, there is an unmarked location that is a newspaper vender. If you check the papers, the stories change as you progress through the game, giving you little stories happening around the wizarding world based on bits of Potter lore. Most notable is the multi-issue story covering a case of cross-species breeding between a dragon and a chicken. This is a reference to book 5 when Mr Weasly took Harry to the ministry for his hearing and someone in the elevator had a fire breathing chicken that had been confiscated.

there is a in game reference/conclusion to that story as well, in one of the caves in the south part of the open world, you find a body with a lot of chicken cages with a note on it informing the person of a ministry inspection visit. Apparently, he was trying to hide his chicken cages and got killed by either the goblins nearby or whatever he accidentally hatched.

In the werewolf room, the tapestries depict a family being terrorized by a werewolf, but if you use lumos in front of each one, the tapestry will change to show that it’s the mother that is the werewolf.

So far my favourite was a side quest with Sacharissa Tugwood, a Hufflepuff student who asks us to fetch some Bubotuber's pus from Forbidden Forest as she is planning on using it in cosmetic potions. What's interesting is that Sacharissa is already established character in HP lore. For example, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002, PC) there is a collectible Silver Famous Witches and Wizards Card of her that says: "Sacharissa Tugwood (1874-1966) Pioneer of Beautifying Potions. Discovered the pimple-curing properties of Bubotuber Pus"

I like Sebastian and Ominis’ banter a lot. Maybe not an Easter Egg but you’ll hear Sebastian wondering if you can Accio a person and Ominis will scoff at him and say you can only Accio them by their clothing. And if you walk by Sebastian while riding a Graphorn, he’ll ask you what happened to your broom. If you take off all your clothes and walk by him he’ll either respond with “I’m not sure what I did to deserve that” or “Are you wearing pyjamas?”

There’s tools inside where you get a guide page that alludes to it being Hagrid’s future home. and there’s a grave marker next to it with a hippogriff, apparently that’s a nod to the actor who passed

There's a treasure map which leads you to a series of bells. You have to hit them in the right order to reveal the treasure chest. When the bells play the song back to you - it's Hedwig's Theme from the movies.

For #14, the painting that turns you to stone DOES have a story behind it, which is explained in the field guide page in front of it. Or even just from looking at the painting itself. Their version of Medusa is in the painting, with a man purposefully avoiding her gaze. When you interact with the painting, it’s as if it’s proof that you’re looking at her and turns you to stone. The man in the painting is also becomes a stone statue after this occurs permanently.

Wanted to point out that in the bathrooms, when you flush some of the toilets they are broken and spray water. You can use the reparo spell and fix the toilets. FYI. Haven’t seen anyone talk about that yet. Great vid! Thanks Falcon!

There is also a painting right outside the hospital wing I was staring at for a LONG time last night waiting for the professors to get out of the way during the Alohomora task that looks exactly like the original Dumbledore actor, Richard Harris. It was too perfect to be a coincidence. He's not dressed as Dumbledore, but it is his face. Looks like a loving tribute.

One of my favorite details is in Hogsmeade. In the hair salon on the counter is a small mirror that when you look at it, it shows the back of your head. I thought it was mind blowing that they had such a small detail included which makes this world even more immersive.

My favorite is the Absconder's bio card. It mentions how she's presumably the first acromantula brought to the Forbidden Forest, and "may have left eggs somewhere" The miniboss is basically Arogog's grandma or something.

Hagrid bought Aragog as an egg from a traveller not from the UK, the Absconder has nothing to do with him. The eggs mentionned in the Absconder's description are the various other Acromantulas you can find in the game, since Acromantulas aren't native to the UK so there shouldn't be any otherwise.

Actually, there is a reason for No. 5 the suits of armor: It's a progression of events, so to speak. One of them is always humming, and the other is reprimanding it for 'not taking the job seriously'. These get a bit more violent each time until the suit of armor that does the reprimanding looses its cool and snaps, punching the humming one to pieces. Which, after a small pause, continues to hum, painfully, while in pieces on the floor.

If you look at the statue of Rowena Ravenclaw in the Ravenclaw common room, she's wearing the Diadem that Voldemort will turn into a Horcruxe later. Also, it's a nice touch to see this statue with the Diadem because in the 7th book, Luna and Harry go to the Ravenclaw common room before the Battle of Hogwarts to take a look at what they're looking for.

Number 4, the Dark Cell actually goes a bit further than just a reference. It unites the canon of the books and films. In the book, Sirius was kept in the charms classroom, but in the films he is being kept in "the dark tower" (which had never been mentioned in the books and would never be mentioned anywhere again). This makes the two locations one and the same and undoes what had previously been a change in the adaptation.

When you listen into conversations in Hogsmeade you might hear some villagers talking about Gormlaith Gaunt -- I looked up their name and there is a whole story surrounding them, and a very dramatic (and tragic) tale which involves her niece, who was actually ran away, married a muggle and was a founder of Ilvermorny.

Ominis is also a Gaunt, which nobody else seems to have noticed. I knew the name rang a bell as soon as it was mentioned, and then it suddenly dawned on me and I literally went 😱 The Gaunts aren't just Tom 'Voldemort' Riddle's ancestors on his mother's side, his mother was a full-blooded Gaunt. Riddle is the surname of his aristocratic muggle father. So Ominis is also related to Voldemort, and must be pretty closely, too, because by the time Tom Riddle is born, his mother, uncle, and grandfather are the last of the Gaunts, and (if we accept HL as starting in 1890) he's born just 36 years later. Ominis could well be his great-uncle.

One of my favorite things in the world are the boy who keeps practicing levitation in Hogsmeade. He will juggle 3 objects and you can throw him off by casting spells at him. I also love the howlers that some of the students receive

Number 1 is not the Basilisk, it is a glitch. It has been confirmed that it is the Giant Squid's leg clipping through the walls, because the common room is underwater. Also, the sliding animation in the stairs is happening because there you would find the Girls dorms, and the male character is not allowed there.

Just a heads up. The Magical Beasts class isn't Hagrid's hut. You'll actually find the separate grounds keeper's hut. That is Hagrid's Hut, even has the pumpkin patch, and it's down the hill from the giant stones where Hermione punched Draco

11:13 For me one of the best random funny scenes is this one moment I came across. I was in Hogsmeade at night and passing by the joke shop. The owner of the shop kicked the door open, towing a couple of students in each hand, and tossed them out like hooligans. They broke into the store and were making a scene, and the owner told them to get out or else.

The candy shop one, that is part of that secret passage way, is at the north east of town around that square where the player fights a troll at the start.

13:35 there’s a second reference to it and Sebastian Sallows quest line when you access the hidden room of Salazar Slytherin, you can find a note that references him, locking up a “monster” in the “chamber”.

The kid with the magic dancing socks is a recurring scene that changes a few times. I believe the final one the mother says he looks fine, then you hear a child's voice making fun of him, giving him that "I told you so" moment. Also the store owner at the same time makes commentary on selling magic socks. That said, some scenes like the kitchen are worth checking on multiple times to see all of the various activities they get into. Another good point of interest is how things get tied together, like the side quests, you can learn how they started and come back to find out what happened. Or in the case of the Jackdaw missions, if you do all 4 play throughs, you get to piece together the story of what happened.

some other things is 1. Ominis Gaunt who is a blind slytherin student can actually be seen walking around the school with his wand held out as it blinks indicating where he needs to go. 2, if you go to hogsmede you can also see two students being thrown out of the joke shop for stealing as you can clearly see some gags firing off from inside their pockets. and 3, another one in hogsmede is you can find a musician who has a hat floating out for tips its only like 10 but each time you return he has a new instrument until you eventually come back and he has a whole band of instruments that he bought all thanks to your tips. Edit: i almost forgot if you manage to find hagrids hut, theres a small grave sitting next to it. i believe the theory is that this is a sad nod to hagrids voice actor passing away

I'm so glad you covered what the suits of armor were doing. When this happened to me, I was talking to Sebastian in a cutscene and COULD NOT SEE what the heck was going on, but I could hear what I thought was a suit of armor falling apart. Got out of the cutscene and there was just pieces everywhere with the other suit standing calmly in his place. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS WHAT WAS HAPPENING OFF SCREEN

Hahaha I had a similar experience! I just got out from the Great Hall through some double doors and noticed there were scattered pieces of armor all over the floor. And the other one was perfectly fine. I felt bad for that one armor (always smile at them when they sing cheerfully) and I innocently wanted to cast Reparo on it to fix it. Was sad to see it didn't work. But also now I understand who the culprit is. 😂

Since the entrance is also in the girls bathroom (also a somewhat modern sink) it was always a reasonable speculation that the original entrance was "updated" by a female descendant of Salazar Slytherin. During a side quest with Sebastian where we see the flying Thestrals, there's a cave nearby and in it is a body and letter which tells us that the dead person has tried to illegally breed Basilisks and we can spot a cracked egg which seems like a Basilisk hatched. Correct me if I'm wrong tho.

I know it’s been a year since this comment, but I just found this cave. Bonus fact-basilisks are mythologically known as a cross between a chicken and a snake (I don’t think anything in Harry Potter ever mentioned that, but it’s part of real world folklore). When you find the dead guy, he’s surrounded by chickens.

Got another basilisk easter egg. I don’t remember which season it was, but when you’re in Hogsmeade (I think it was around the tailor), there was a newspaper boy. When you read the newspaper it briefly says how a basilisk hatches and it explains sth about basilisk breeding laws. Really fun little detail. I feel like that’s a detail that was easy to miss.

11 Months later but this one is also really cool bc he explains that it has to do with Chickens and then later in game if you take a side route during the imperious part of Sebastian's quest you can stumble across a dead kid on the ground with 2 chickens out of their cages and a note speaking about the dangers of breeding basalisks.. Basically implying he successfully bred one, it killed him and is now out and about in the Scottish Highlands somewhere

Hagrid’s Hut location from the first two movies is the Beast Classroom, and for the rest of the movies his Hut is down the hill from the Clocktower. I thought it was sweet the way they included both locations.

There's one more easter egg about following spiders: in one of the spider nests you can find a body wrapped in spider web. Beside them lies a piece of paper which has a "follow the spiders" line written repeatedly on it :) Perhaps this is located in a ruin near Archie's fort, but I'm not 100% sure of it's location.

The only real complaint I have about this game, after 50 hours, is that it’s almost always too dark. Night comes way too soon and even in the day it’s usually dreary and gray. I get that it’s Scotland, not the Mediterranean, so it’s realistic, but I want to enjoy the beauty of this open world more than I want absolute realism.

2:28 the same toys can be found having a tea party on top of a hill near hogwarts, they're probably on a little road trip ! 10:08 there's actually a SECOND hut that looks a lot more like hagrid's hut. If you go outside past the big bridge and the stone circle, go down the path and you'll find Hagrid's hut. It's empty and quite small for him, but the location is the same shown in prisonner of azkaban.

11:15 the armor doesn't randomly destroy the other one, I noticed that there are 3 states: at first one armor is humming, in the second state the armor is still humming but the other one gently hits it (if I remember correctly) and it's only the third time you encounter them that the not humming one gets very angry and destroys the humming armor

You messed up. Hagrid's hut is the caretaker hut out the back and down the slope next to the pumpkin patch in front of the water. The Magical Beasts classroom is in the side courtyard. They are 2 completely different places

Even though right now it's only a maintenance hut, because this caretaker lives inside the castle and Hagrid was the one that turned into his home.

This game isn't my favorite open world RPG ever, but the actual building of the world is absolutely incredible. The attention to detail that they paid to all of these kinds of things (and more, as other commenters have mentioned) is just incredible, and it really made the game feel lived in. Seeing students mess around (casting spells to allow them to walk on walls, bullying other students by casting localized storms over their heads, etc.), the details of the pictures and other wall hangings, especially within teacher's rooms and other "hidden" spaces...there's just so much to find in this game, it really is a love letter to the franchise. I do think it suffers from some strange design choices at times (things like level 3 locked doors leading to chests that hold basic green items, having to go into different parts of the menu to change the visual look of the clothing you wear instead of being able to do it within the same clothing selection menu, etc.), but between the world building, the smooth combat, and the really, REALLY fun flight mechanics the game just does so much well that it's hard for me to even want to critique it.

They are both Hagrid's hut though, it's a reference to how after the 2nd film from the 3rd onwards the hut changes its look and was moved to a new location. Technically they are both accurate to different films.

The Basilisk appearance is actually just a glitch where the squid that appears in the Slytherin Common Room glitches and it appears in the hallway for whatever reason. Somebody modded the game so they could go up the stairs without being pushed back down and yeah that's what it is basically.

The Niffler/Whatever stuffy that you find there isn't the only one. There are *many* through the world. Just off the top of my head: On top of an otherwise massive and empty hill very near Hogsmeade is the pair at a tea party (with one for you!), and also at the bottom of Horklump Cavern, you'll find at least one of them in the troll's cage, and finally, less of an Easter egg, a Niffler stuffy is part of the (either Botanical or Eclectic) potion station.

No one this far has mentioned this. Aside from the snowman, if you're not paying attention, you will miss it. I did my first play through as a Griffindoor. When you're on the quest looking for the notes from head master Black's house elf, pay attention to the scarecrow when you start breaking the pumpkins. He will scuff and ruffle, then scald you by shaking his finger at you like a mother would a child. I also believe any of them will do this little animation and might also be the same if you outright attack them. Enjoy.
