@@RickJoystickwhen you play you don’t notice 80% of those differences. I am sure you noticed here just because you see the game side by side. It’s a great thing it run on Switch, and it is quite good objectively for Switch capabilities. Last thing, if they did it, it’s because a lot of people will buy it, and I am sure they will enjoy the game exactly as PS5 users, and even more because they can play it everywhere. I have a Legion go and I consider myself lucky because I can have detailed graphics + portability, but I play a lot on my Switch too and it remains an amazing console.

as a person who doesn't have a pc or ps and can only play on switch lite, i've only chosen to have a look at the other versions now that i'm able to play and i have to say -- it's giving skyrim but thats so ok because i also love skyrim! so i'm super happy with the switch version but also can't wait to get it on ps5 when i get one in the future hahaha

Seeing this in action is really interesting, and I can understand why it was delayed so many times. Instead of just dropping the settings on everything, the assets looked so different that I would say they're custom-made specifically for Switch. Definitely justifed in all the delays, the hard work has paid off. I have it on PC but I'll definitely pick it up towards Christmas time, hats off to the devs.

Hogwarts Legacy is already portable thanks to Steam Deck, but I'm super glad this Switch version exists. More people will have the chance to play, and Switch has better battery life than Deck.

The gameplay holds up pretty well even when exploring outside hogwarts, fps is stable. Details and textures are blurry tho and there are noticeable pop ins, might get fixed by updates if they decide to

I need to get back to this game, as i took a break after investing about 30+ hours into it, but it's a fantastic game, and yes, while the Switch version obviously doesn't have the visual fidelity of the more powerful hardware version, I'm just really impressed and happy that Switch only owners are now able to experience the game for themselves. Graphics never really bother me. FPS is most important to me. As long as the game doesn’t lag, skip or just be buggy. Lol. Honestly I’d play it if it looked like it was made on a ps1

Glad the family is expanding! It honestly just looks like Ben says, most prominently the lighting, and retextures to be less defined with no ray-tracing. The darker color is likely due to the lack of light reflection and toned downed and simplified ambient lighting, like the glare of the sun during sunset, etc. But it still looks more than serviceable than expected and is one of the best looking Switch games. Honestly, the darkened, more blue tint to the lighting looks more ominous, like the later HO films

Graphics don't matter to me that much. What I'm curious about is how well the gameplay is (you mentioned the frame rate dropped a little at times) and if the Switch version is missing any kind of content that the game has on other consoles?

I don’t think it’s really missing anything.. in fact has “more” to be specific. A few bridges that connect different parts of the castle became enclosed corridors. But overall it is the same game as on other platforms. And handheld - that’s like a completely different experience!

Xbox One and Xbox Series S are similar, but Series X is another world. In Xbox Series S the 60fps mode is the way to go, but in Series X playing in 30fps 4k the details and the Ray Tracing are phenomenal in this game - so much beautiful.

thanks for the review, i feel like people look at the images only and since the switch has worse quality they just write it off as a bad thing or a wrong way to play the game. but let's not forget there are people who only have the switch, it can be that because of the type of games they like it just makes more sense to have it. i like nintendo games and don't have enough money to buy all the consoles in the world... i knew of its limits when i bought it, i don't care about graphics, we're not all the same type of gamer and i'm really happy they made it possible for me to play this game on my switch

Lighting is one on the most important aspects in modern games, if you had to to turn off the dynamic lighting from games such as Spiderman 2 for PS5 it would suddenly look less realistic (aside from the huge number of polygons, materials, etc.), and often we tend to underestimate this. Here when you look at the footage side by side, you can really tell how much a slightly better lighting system would have improved the overall look, nonetheless I find this port pretty impressive considering the extremely old mobile hardware of Switch, the demanding game. Moreover should be appreciated that the trailer has been quite honest, it doesn't look like they tried to polish it in any way to hide some serious problems, even though it has to be seen how well the game will run inside the caste and with more stuff on screen

@@benitopina1262 “looks bad” you’re referring to the visuals of the game. it’s not great? yes, they did this because this is the quality that Switch can handled. What I’m saying is that the games as a whole, not just the visuals, works perfectly fine in the Switch, I’ve seen a 13 minutes gameplay from Switch and I can say it’s good, considering its an old console.

@@marlon221994 I agree mostly. They had to sacrifice a lot. Switch is an obsolete hardware, it was even when it came out. But some devs did amazing job with optimization and were capable of porting some games to Switch at really nice visuals and framerates. So it's not that bad of a hardware just most devs are shit at optimization. I feel like many of the missing effects in this port could have been replaced. Sad thing is, lots of time they don't put enough effort into these ports to make the game look better with cheaper, fake effects. And many cases, instead of that, they just remove things entirely. But manually rebuilding some assets for specific ports, recreating effects with cheaper methods, bake lighting wherever it's possible instead of relying on lots of real-time shadows, etc... they can be done but lots of extra work and many of the methods would make the game visuals less dynamic but definitely less flat too if they're done well.

I’ve just got it on switch and from watching videos of other console versions and playing the game I notice the switch has many more loading screens, faces are less expressive, hair is more pixelly and straw like, and there are less people in the surrounding world at one time. Like hogwarts still has students but way less in the halls than I’ve seen in play throughs. But other than those, I’m so impressed with how the game runs on switch. But I am still tempted to get a ps5 for the sake of appreciating the brilliance of the graphics on there haha.

Bet you it looks as good or better than the Original Xbox One model. Im impressed with what they have done. It looks like a high end last gen game. Dude Doom and Doom Eternal preformed great on switch for a mobile device. Framerate suffered a bit in 2016 but it was excellent. Eternal dialled back some detail elements in lou of consistent framerate but it played like a dream. Bc of the portability I choose it over playing it on my ps5

It's fine, I bought the Switch version out of curiosity and it is absolutely serviceable. I wouldn't recommend it if you have any of the other consoles or a decent PC to play it on. But if all you have is a Switch, this port is a competent experience. And that's as nice as I can be about it.

Using Unreal Engine really helps porting it on the Switch, many unreal engine effects can be turned off with a button press or tone down with a slider. Like that troll destroying the house, that is literally an Unreal Engine effect of destructive environment and you can choose the amount of pieces with a slider

While this port looks decent, sadly many devs just literally do that. Sure, a bit more than that, but most of the time it's better replace a graphical feature rather then remove. Like MK1 is a great example of just removing and making it look like shit. Lots of old games used tons of baked lights, simpler but still decent effects rather than bruteforce the engine and the hardware to do it. There are lots of material features that can be baked into less textures. Surely, it's clearly visible. But better than nothing. Reducing some particle effects isn't bad, I believe it doesn't hurt the game that much than removing some things completely. I can see tons of effects in this comparison video that could have been done with old-school methods rather than just... not doing at all. Like they could fake some volumetric lighting decades ago for the hardware of that era. Bake some ambient occlusion into textures, maybe some normal maps too. Less dynamic, but also much less flat.

The fact the graphics look as good as they do on a console so small you can fit in your pocket, is actually more impressive than a machine over 20 times its size with only marginal better graphics. When doing these graphics comparisons, we should also see a size difference of the machines for context. One is sexy and sleek, the other is the size of a VHS player from the 90s... We should hope the massive machine has better graphics, as it should. That's not impressive.

If you are planing to play this game mostly infront of a tv then buy the Xbox or ps5 version. Switch version is perfect for portable play.

I was with you till the Doom Eternal. Eternal was one of the better ports actually, it is false to say it in one breath with MK1. Eternal is more a matter of preference, MK1 is a bad port.

It is absolutely non sense to bring Doom Eternals as an example of game not running well on Switch... that is a REALLY great port. It runs flawlessly (at 30fps) and it is graphically a lot better than this game.

At least it runs on the switch, and if you play on the OLED that's quite okay, the game looks great, not everyone has a PS5 at home, and with the switch you can also play it on the go ;)

The comparison is Switch vs Steam deck I think. PS5 looks amazing and a switch is a handheld.

We all knew it was foing to see massive downgrades to run on the switch. The important thing to me is to see if the delays paid off and the performance is good. No one playing it on the switch will expect it to look like it does on a ps5, they just want it to be stable.

The Switch version is kind of what you can expect. I'm not impressed or disappointed. Btw the fps looks horrible on switch in certain situations

Yeah, I had some rough areas with that. But surprisingly in the forests it performs better than on Xbox one.. frame rate wise
