Interesting video.😊 I have a VN myself. I love it. I’ve only been playing for 18 months but I decided to go for the Morino quite early on as it seemed to be a great all rounder in terms of voices. How do you think the Morino performs in comparison to two accordions that are dedicated musette or double octave. Do you think there is a compromise because of the fact that it has both ?

No compromise apart from size, weight, and the fact that 4 reed accordions often have 11 couplers too, so there are more available variations of the 4 reeds than the Morino has. Again the 2 models are different but for example on the VM you dont have Violin or MM as a choice and on the VM you can't have MMMH. Couplers can be changed to let you do this but with 5 reeds there are 31 variations so you either need a giant coupler, or you miss some out, or you arrange the coupler to turn on and off each reed individually (which is how I have my bass couplers arranged) but then quick coupler changes become problematic.

@@georgeaccordion Hi again. So… I have a question. I’m pretty handy and as well as learning to play I’ve also been dabbling in repairing accordions with reasonable success. I joined that FB group “accordion repairs” and posted some of my projects. I’ve worked on and pretty much sorted a few now ,maybe 6🤔 I’ve covered most things in the process of doing them. Revalving ,rewaxing, pallet refacing even taking apart and fixing a couple of bass mechanisms. But and here’s the BIG BUT…… Tuning is the dark art I’ve yet to attempt. I purchased Dirks software and I already had a pretty good set up for recording. I’ve watched a guy on KZbin called Rich who posts videos I installements of his restorations but although he does sort of show what he’s doing, It’s not very detailed. I’m finding it quite frustrating as. I can’t finish the ones I’ve worked on until I can get this process sorted. I was wondering if you do any courses on tuning using Dirks. My friend had an instrument tuned by you not that long back (Chris Brain) and he mentioned you do tuition. Is that an area you cover? Cheers 😊 All the best Johnny

@@utopia1963 Hi - I haven't but I would happily teach tuning at the same rate as I teach playing. I use the Musicians Union reccomended rate which is currently £40.50 per hour. You would have to come to my workshop in Narberth. email me if you are interested. george@georgewhitfield.co.uk

Which is better, VM or VN? Thank you.

In this case the VN played better than the VM. It is hard to tell whether that is just because it was newer and less worn.

My Morino VN was the worst accordion I ever had (Hohner Student 4 included). Tone response was incredibly poor. I changed very soon to the then new Morino VS which was much better and a really good accordion. But all these problems happened more than 40 years ago. To me, already for decades Hohner cannot be taken as a serious accordion manufacturer anymore.
