My attempt at showing what happens when 3 players play as the Axis major nations and join forces in a co-op Hearts of Iron 4 campaign against the bots.

thatoneguy33198 No. I went for nukes once, nuked a few of the US' cities (I was Japan-thought it would be fitting), found that it didn't help the war effort pretty much at all and never touched nukes again.

+InfiniteNova Yeah... they are pretty crap, when you nuke cities they lower national unity so you still have to occupy land. (They also act as very insanely good strategic bombers, as 3 nukes will destroy all factories and infrastructure in a state) They also basically annihilate divisions, they are good for when the enemy has a 30 divisions in one place, you can nuke it and they'll lose 300k men and supplies.... but then again, they only show up around 1945 in most cases so its super late game.

No, Italy was a joke. They invaded North Africa and got stomped. Invaded Greece and got stomped. Really the only contribution they had was keeping shipping open for the Afrika Corps.

Aertew Gaming American education tends to skip Italy a lot, which is rather silly. Without Italy, the world war would've been over much sooner, as the Italian war effort essentially enabled the U-boats war effort to matter. They get a bad rap for needing saving in Greece and North Africa, but people always ignore the fact that German aid in Greece only mattered because Bulgaria allowed them military access, which let them outflank the Greeks, something they hadn't​let the Italians do, this forcing them to fight over some of the worst terrain in Europe with only the limited port facilities in Albania to supply their troops. and then again in North Africa, the Axis armies were always a majority Italian, as it had less to do with 'stronk German soldier,' and more Rommel's battlefield genius that they had the success they enjoyed. Ironically, Italy was screwed over more by Germany than the other way around. Even ignoring Germany's massive f*ck up over Britain that allows the RAF to recover from the pounding it was taking, or the fact that the Germans refused to believe any evidence that Enigma was compromised... the Germans were incredibly reluctant to share any technological information with their allies, while the Italians shared much more freely (for example, German torpedoes were unreliable and almost useless Early in the war, this they had to rely on Italian torpedoes until they could build their own versions (and then improved upon them, as the Germans tended to do). Then there were cases of the Germans lying to their allies or giving false intelligence (for example, the Battle of Cape Matapan, where German false intelligence and false promises of air cover lead to the biggest Italian defeat at Sea of the war, the only one they suffered in a fleet action)... or refusing to aid in vital resources such as fuel oil, etc, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. There were many problems that plagued the Italian war effort, but the biggest by far was Germany.

Without Italy, the war most definitely would not have been over much sooner. I cannot attest to the technological "advances" Italy provided Germany without some sources, but militarily Italy was an utter failure in WW2. Operation Barbarossa was delayed with the intention of allowing Italy to prepare. Realizing Italy was never going to be prepared, which Mussolini basically stated himself, Hitler launched the operation without Italy. Even Italian generals were very well aware of the shortcomings of the Italian army. If Italy hadn't joined the Axis and remained neutral, then Germany could have used the troops defending the peninsula elsewhere when Italy surrendered, possibly lengthening the war.

@@sfogliatelle278 Soviet Union was never one to be defeated by anyone. In reality it was the only true winner of the war on both fronts by defeating Italy, Germany and Japan. As for the Italian army, I know a lot of fake propaganda about its weakness propagated by the Anglo Americans but the thing is hadn't Italian army covered the fleeing Germans in the Soviet Union many more Germans would have been shredded to bits by the Russian barrage.
