"Older songs..." Hoist the Colors was literally written in a sea shanty style for the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It tells the story about how the Pirate King and his men, the Brethren Court, kidnapped the Queen, Calypso, and bound her in her mortal form, her 'bones.' Geoff is the one that did this arrangement of the song and in my opinion it is a mastery. Love you guys and how you react to things. You have such a great synergy.

Not sure about this song, but since Covid, the guys have been using their own home studios to record individual tracks, then they are sent to the arranger. Geoff goes into the whole process in his video on arranging. Very informative, and funny. Layne sings all the parts when he arranges, Geoff seems to use a combination of singing and synths. Singers are sent a tape with extreme pan, their part on one side, everybody else on the other. Impressive that Eli can get that intensity recording himself with no audience. These guys are amazing, and if Covid had a silver lining, being off the road, gave the time to perfect old skills, and learn some new ones. Love to see your reactions, which always go a lot deeper than "well, that was nice" One final note, the movie version of this song start with a cabin boy who is on the gallows, his voice hasn't broken yet so it is pretty high.

Whoever does their makeup deserves every penny they get. As great as VP is, the makeup and costumes adds another layer of specialness.

They are performers, not just singers. They do the full production in every song, set, costume, make-up and the whole group also goes into character with funny voices when necessary (Oogie Boogie song) and acting too. I bet they could make an entire musical movie with no effort, playing the parts as well as singing.

Just a small point of fact: this is not an actual older song. It was written for "Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End" (2007); the line about "The King and his men stole the queen from her bed" was actually a plot point earlier in the franchise. 'Course, remixing music from Disney movies (and taking them up a few notches) is also a VoicePlay thing.

One of the reasons I follow you guys is to listen outside of my narrow experience. I have found several artists that I now follow from reactors who reach different genres than I would venture into from lack of exposure. Tom MacDonald is one that you guys have introduced me to. When rap first started, when I was younger, it had a higher purpose, then somehow lost its way to meaningless gibberish that enlightened no one and glorified the wrongness. Tom has returned it to it's roots. Whether you agree of disagree it exposes an independent view point that needs to be considered. This Is why I am subscribed to you all. I found you through a cappella, but I stay for the variety.

I believe that Layne (the vocal percussionist) records each piece of different percussion separately and then there is some layering that happens in production - or does a run through then adds extra on top. As someone else pointed out, Layne has been interviewed on the Charismatic Voice and showed how their Moana Medley looked when he edited the music track together.
@Tryst463 жыл бұрын
Layne only does it to a limited degree. If you hear them live, his vocal percusssion is almost the same live as it is when recorded. Most of his layering is to add depth rather than additional sounds that he couldn't reproduce live.

In the licensed to KZbin part of the description, if it says SME it looks like SME is the main claimant recently. It looks like the Pentatonix stuff is SME (most recent release is...). Voiceplay looks to not be using SME on recent releases and Home Free (on recent releases) is not using SME either. My guess as to why the views are so low has to do with Reactors. I looked at the views on their last few full videos that they have released, and they vary from under 200K to more than 1.5M. My theory is that a lot more people are actually getting their first look at these videos through reactors. More reactors are jumping on these videos the day that they are released, so people see the reaction before they get a chance to look at the original.

If the view count is lower than you'd expect, it's probably because people are watching it on reactors' channels rather than off Voiceplay's page, which is unfortunate but kind of understandable.
