Hoisting Loose Hay

It's the early 1960s. A summer storm is blowing in from the west and there is cut and dry hay that needs to be stored in the loft. The 1937 Farmall F-20 is running hayracks to and from the pasture. After parking a load of hay on the north side of the barn, the tractor would then be used to pull the hoist line that runs the hay trolley. The trolley would lift the hay up to the proper height, pull it inside, and drop it in the loft when a trip cord was pulled.

Old 8mm films from my Grandparents' farm. The 1937 F-20 is featured in many other videos on my channel. It was my only cultivating tractor when I started farming in 2014.

@@jasonwhitler4167 I have a tractor like that too. I have a 1944 McCormick-Deering W-4 that my grandpa bought in 1951, and has been in the family ever since. It is unrestored but still running.

That was quite a way of putting up hay, but at one time, that's what they did. Then the square balers came out and they were a lot of work too.
