As a combat tracker, let’s break it down. The average walking pace is about a 20 minute mile, now this can change due to the to terrain and physical condition of the person. The pee/scat/explosion is only a starting point indicator. I know you have been there and so I pick up your tracks from there. If you are running, you might be physically covering more ground, but you are leaving a huge track for me to follow. So once I pick up your track, I can get a general idea having studied the terrain and know exactly where you were headed. I send my second team 1 mile in that location and they start backtracking. I flush you to them or they easily spot your tracks because you’re moving fast. If they spot tracks, they assess on your direction and then I moved 1 mile past that position, over and over and over again until you are just too tired to move. So bury your pee, Implement counter tracking measures and make it challenging for us. We do it because we love the hunt.

You don't even need NV to see a TV remote. You can see the IR from tv remotes on your phone camera or on point & shoot cameras. Go to a dark room with your remote and your phone and try it. DSLRs usually have an IR filter unless we're talking special versions that are used mainly in forensic detective work, so on standard DSLRs you won't see IR.

Taking much larger gaps than that would take a significant amount of time traveling in a direction you don't wanna go, which kinda defeats the purpose of trying to get away I think. The information that gives my untrained ass even is that I wanna pick the tree where the spot looks hottest, because that's more than likely the fresh one, then draw a 20 minute line from there to see every spot you could be. I disfavor the path straight ahead in the search because why else are you trying to pull the wool over my eyes, that makes the search FAR easier already. Now if you've been running from my guys I disfavor the direction directly towards them as well since that'll get you caught for sure so I'm not going to spend my most valuable timewindow on looking there. So that leaves off to the sides. I bet my lifesavings that one or two military drone(s) can scan that now almost half the area of interest in less time than you can build yourself a hidey hole.

honestly after seeing many ukraine war videos something that sticks out to me is the amount of piss bottles that there are in their bunkers. I thought it was because they didn't want to get shot or anything outside doing their business but now I'm guessing its because it would 100% give their position away!

Yep. As long as you are not close enough, or touching your cover, then you cannot be seen with thermal. But being on the move is the problem.

One of my relatives told me they’d have to dig like a foot to two foot deep hole to piss in and they’d have to lay down to ensure no splash on the dirt. Always thought that was over kill but no one can be to precarious while in the middle of an actual battlefield. He also would sleep the farthest he could from any window or door incase of an intruder even if it meant being on the floor. I’m not that extreme but after his story’s I’ll always remember sleep where they won’t think of. Great dude if you didn’t know him you probably wouldn’t notice he’d been through something like war but he was ready for anything that could possibly happen. Love him one of the few good things about family reunions.
