Holden V8 Supercar - Thunder Saloons - Race One - Brands GP - 01/07/2023 - Super Touring Power

With all the excitement of Greg Murphy, driving one of our other cars at the Super Touring Power event, we completely over looked posting any footage from our races.
Race one of four and on the GP circuit.
This one is a good watch! 22nd to 2nd! Fastest lap of the race by 0.716 of a second, which was also the fastest lap time we have ever achieved round the GP circuit, over 3 seconds quicker!
We were starting 22nd, due to a mishap in qualifying. Track conditions were less than ideal, not wet enough for wets and and not try enough for slicks.
On only the second lap, Alex was straightening up after coming out of Clearways, with only 8% throttle the car just switched ends. Putting him into the pit wall. Fortunately, either by skill or luck he manage to just clip the wall with the front right corner then skim the side of car down it. Damage was minimal but it did knock the steering out. We decided it was best to just go back out and poodle round to complete the mandatory three laps required to be able to race. Then check the car over and sort out the tracking before the race.
On to the race and starting 22nd with only a short 15 minute race, the aim was just to get as high up as we can and be in a better position for the second race.
An unfortunate safety car added to the challenge, losing precious laps needed to progress. Never the less, on the final lap we were up to 3rd and closing in on second place.
Using the brute force of the V8, second was nabbed just at the line by 0.033 of a second! A win may well have been on the cards, but some time was lost being extra cautious coming through the field and getting by lapped cars, sometimes it is better to be cautious, rather than risk an incident and damage to the car.
This put us in a great position for race 2, which we won!

Great to see V8 super car racing in the UK. Great driving, especially trying to get past that red or orange hatchback with the high rear spoiler, he/she was all over the place trying to keep you behind it.

That was awesome. It was like a video game with how much quicker you were. Pity it’s such a short track with no real big straights to use that engine. Great to watch. Keep it up. 😊

Yeah, there are several different classes within the races, so always a big disparity. We were obviously out of position but makes for a more interesting video!

Good to see a touring car (sort of) racing in the UK..Don't think much of the driving though. No flow through corners, sprint on straight..stop on corners sprint stop etc and car position on corners...well....All up, Cost you so much time and places. You mentioned Greg Murphy....Would have loved to have seen him in that race....not just a few laps...Would be huge difference. (Hint. Go watch a Bathurst 1000 video a few times. Mt Panorama track is much narrower and much tougher than Brands Hatch. Watch the flow of drivers there, watch their car positioning and cornering and the flow they achieve even on that track.) And yes I did a hold a limited CAMS license back in the day.

Not really stretching its legs here frustratingly. Its actually hard on camera to see how fast these cars are,in real life they are amazingly quick.with crazy handling. The guys who drive these things must be very experienced.

@@davidburne9477 He must have been really fond of his doors? Obviously didn't want a Holden to blow them off. I see the AU got blown into the weeds. No fight in that one. It would have been good to see an old Falc fight it out with the Holden. Hopefully the Falcon pilot can find the pedal on the right in time for the next race.
