It would hard to describe how angry I was watching Joe Hockey basically laughing about shutting this plant down .The media has to,take some responsibility no debate, every writer just mirroring the stuff released by politicians and the productivity commission, both companies had just spent and committed Over a Billion dollars each. into our economy. Toyota had just opened a new engine plant and both were introducing new models and Mark Reuss who is GM’s Vice President of product stated in GM Today News at the time ( check it out), that he favoured keeping the Commodore car in production, that would have been 3 cars built in Elizabeth. With all the taxes,wages etc paid by GM Toyota to the Government ,simple arithmetic shows that the government just flushed it away Also The PM’s comments about people’s future were stupid to say the least. Why, the unions? Arrogance, who knows! Also if these companies took the advice of the then Industries minister and built small cars, they would have been sitting on a pile of unwanted cars now . It is worth noting that the Commodore was always in the top ten sellers and only dropped out of the top 6, 12 months before its demise. Do I.own a Commodore, yes a Calais V , a fantastic car by any measure. Also get sick of the “crap”argument, Look at how many parts from component manufacturers are shared with so called good cars, whatever brand they are.

Are there any auto engineers and designers still living in this country? IF so,why isn't anybody thinking about designing an upscale and 21st century Zeta,a truly native Australian brand,not owned by GM Ford or Mitsubishi and not reliant on any government money?

All those jobs, now gone, yeah cheers for that Turnbull...
@nath-wp7xp4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, blame Turnbull instead of the many Australian economic factors that make the production of cars unsustainable and unappealing to car manufacturers along with the shifting consumer demands and tastes that further accelerated the demise of local manufacturing.
@SugmaDick4 жыл бұрын
I believe it was Abbot that caused it, because he withheld funding to holden in 2013
@garyrielly19553 жыл бұрын
Yes it was Abbott and his Treasurer Joe Hockey, they put a stop to subsidising the auto industry in Australia and the fact they cut huge Tariffs off Imported Cars which in turn made the Australian made cars way too expensive. In other countries like Germany and the United States the governments there heavily subsidise their auto manufacturing industry. The Czech Republic with a population of just over 10.1 million produce the Skoda car range and export the brand, so how come with a population of over 25 million Australia cannot even manufacture a bloody razor blade..... disgusting!
@time2kickarse2 жыл бұрын
@@garyrielly1955 Joe hockey was and is part of the young global leaders of Klaus Schwab and the World economic forum. Unfortunately Australia is still on the downward spiral today in 2022 thanks to useless self serving politicians and public servants.

Brought myself a VF SSV redline series one, the last of the series one's 2015.:) also i put on rear brembos and DPE rear mufflers and now people think its a series twom even through i did not know that the series two' shad the rear bremo's. :) Only 30K on the clock and 3 years old, :) Also my car is only a few which were owned by a worker, ie: manager of the Elisabeth plant in south australia, most holden car owners manuals will have the previous owners name and address if brought 2nd, but mine has a holden white sticker with owner clearly stated Holden Motor corporation, elizabeth manufacturing plant south australia and the Vin, number, engine number and stock number and ticked Capped price serving. :) thank you all the workers for holden and i hope most of them have found new jobs and i hope holden bring out a twin turbo version of the ZB holden AWD and around 350KW at the engine or a supercharged version with about the same HP figures :) I was going to buy a FG XR8, but when i seen them for the first time in 2015, the outside was basically the same IE Rear end and front end changed as far as the looks, but inside the same old dash and seats shape, leather etc etc, also herd that the diff bushes have to be done on all the fords that came out if its a FG and the turbo versions the turbo's have to be done around the 40K mark, depending on how you drive it as well, but turbo's engines especially the bara should be able to take it, like that upload of 10 secound FG F6 in 10 days, yet the top end of the engine was stuffed and basically had to rebuild the engine to handle all that power including the auto and the diff etc, cant get my head around how much the people who own the FB XR8's from 2015 onwards are asking for them yet they have nothing on the new VFR even the first series, ie: 2013 models ?

7071t6, your VF would be an EX employee lease vehicle...I leased 6 new VEs in a row when when I worked there!... I took a redundancy at the end of 2012 just after the first run of MVB pilot pre production VFs had been built . I worked at Elizabeth plant for 10 years ,and was very proud to do so !. Regardless of what some people think ,there was very strict controls on quality ,and a huge amount of testing and engineering went into VE and VF... People who think that the are not a good vehicle don't realise that in every overseas market that we exported to that these vehicles were highly regarded...many people in America believe the VF SS ( Chevrolet spec export version) is the best sedan GM have ever offered for sale in America!

@ the 6:46 mark you can clearly see the external trans cooler fitted on that car ,which is a cop car full stop, even if you ordered a new VF series one or two with a tow pack, even the largest tow pack from holden, they do not put a external trans cooler at all, i asked the spare parts guys at my local holden dealership and trust me the part number for that external transcoder is for VF HSV auto and Statesman, and Police packs only, you could put one on a holden Oe which is part number HF04A780, BUT HAS A TOTAL OF 20 DIFFERENT SEPERATE PART NUMBERS AND YOU ONLY REQUIRE A COUPLE TO HAVE THE THING FITTED TO YOUR VF IF YOU WANT ONE ,BUT CHECK WITH AFTER MARKET ONES AS WELL, LIKE PWR PRODUCTS ETC, Cheers :) Sorry about the CAPS ?

If you stop the video at 10:15 you can read the broadcast ( build) sheet .. This vehicle is a SSV Model Year 2014 MVB S which means manufacturing validation build saleable .So this car is infact a pre production pilot vehicle,but a very close to regular production model , hence the S for saleable...early MVB (pilot) vehicles are not saleable , evaluation only ,and pilot vehicles sometimes have different equipment to regular production versions!
@tomnewham12694 жыл бұрын
wonkychikn I’m guessing it became a press car but I could be wrong.
@wonkychikn4 жыл бұрын
@@tomnewham1269 ,It is possible ,but some validation vehicles also get extra items fitted to them as part of the engineering evaluation process.Once GM have finished with these vehicles they generally got on sold to dealers as ex GMH vehicles,but only pilot pre production vehicles with the code MVB S were on sold ,as earlier pilot vehicles didn't get a proper vin tag only a pilot tag and would basically get destroyed at the proving ground,or end up as run around " hacks" for use inside the ground of the assembly plant....some also get donated to various TAFE facilities and to emergency services to cut up for rescue training!

@beagle76226 жыл бұрын
Don Derply No they don’t do the guys in that film look rushed. GM had and I believe still do have standard time for each part of an operation . Yes they looked for efficiency but they were being told by the company and also the Productivity Commission & government to be more efficient.I have worked on one of these lines when I was young at university, constant pace yes but certainly not rushed.Also you were given opportunities if you wanted to widen your skill, many people just wanted to learn 1 job.
