Holden VZ Commodore Change Fuel Pump ~ Remove Fuel Tank VT,VX,VY similar HD

Recorded a video of how I went about changing the fuel pump on my Holden VZ commodore wagon. Hopefully what I show in this video might help other people complete the same task. If you do this, be careful as petrol can under some conditions be at the least flammable and sometimes explosive.

Excellent vid as always mate! Just a heads up for those like me who own a VZ One Tonner, because of the tank going over the drive shaft, the fuel pump has a hose that goes off into the other half of the tank, be careful when you feed this thru the other side because if you place it wrong, the sender arm gets caught on the hose and will give false readings when your fuel gauge goes from full to empty. It has caused me a bit of confusion when I did this pump and hose and my fuel gauge was showing empty but I still had 30L of fuel left in the tank.

You have to push the hose forward then pull back..to get the fuel hose off.

1:30 you don't need to use a tool to remove those connectors you are meant to squeeze the tabs in and then it comes off easy. The only problem is that they get full of dirt and you can't squeeze the tabs in so you gotta clean them with brake cleaner and then use wd40 on them then I just gently squeezed them with needle-nose pliers and it came off easy.

@@thepattersongirls3547 Make sure you are gentle with it and don't force it. There is also a technique to it, squeeze tab, push connector forward then slightly pull backwards.

Should definitely do fuel filter whilst you are at it, even after a year of driving those things are shot from shit fuels but now i run multiple aftermarket filters

Hey mate, bloody good video. Just wondering how you knew you needed to change your fuel pump? My VZ wagon isn't idling very well and it threw up codes P2188 and P2190 System too rich at idle banks 1 and 2. A mate told me a little while ago to check my fuel pump...

Hi. I had a rough idle but it took ages to prime and the thing would crank for ages before it fired was what made me think it was a faulty pump. I'm trying to think what would cause it to run rich. I'd have thought the fuel pump would make it lean if it wasn't working if it wouldn't be able to supply the pressure.

I did this twice.as I thought the fuel pump was not working.turned out to the regulator.motor would wind over an wouldn't start.after 1/2hr of cranking.it would start..

Hi , ive got a vyss series 2 are all the new pumps generic , i sawon ebay 5.7 but said for monaro . Also if pump is out off the car , and i turned the key to hear it , would it work dry ? Couldn't hear any noise while in or out the car , but once it was out i wasnt getting fuel guage error .

I really couldn't tell you. I wrecked the back end carting too much tools and got rid of it after not many more kms. I would recommend doing a good clean out of the tank when its out but. I reckon it was still sucking in dregs from the dodgy fuel through the new pump.

yeah mate i am planning to give tank a good clean out as their is so much crap in filter all the time,and very shocked to see how big the pieces got thru to filter.i have an issue with cold start up sometimes hot.,i cant hardly hear fuel pump prime like i used to.just changed regulator.fuel injectors clean out with a new kit is next on list.

Also just thinking aloud here, would it be better to start the car first, remove the pump fuse and let it run until the engine stops ? Minimizing the loss of fuel other than whats left in the rest of the fuel line?

That’s if your car starts, why would you change it if it started ok? mine doesn’t start and have to put a new pump on

It'll burn the pressure off in the line so it'll be less likely to squirt out everywhere. It wont run for long though, the line will still be full just not under pressure.

genuine was $90 cheaper than Repco and so where the 2 fuel filters?? remove the elect plug with small flat blade screwdriver and swing down as you pull/wiggle-remove grey plastic u shape lock first--I removed fuel relay while engine was running--new pump has an extra piece near locating lug and pump is spring loaded- need to push into place

Unfortunately it was the pump. 55 litres of fuel and the weight of the tank, had no gear with me except for a small toolbox I always carry with me and I was about an hour from home. Not easy to lift the tank back in while doing the straps up haha. Lucky I'm not a small guy.

I'm leaving the gender specific part of that alone, if the trolls want to take that one further that's up to them, I'm not here to moderate the internet. Presumably if the pump is completely cooked there will be not much pressure in the lines anyway, it's going to leak fuel out regardless whether you purge it.

do you find fuel gauge issues from VZ are from the float being half filled with fuel or something else, have had problems from VT to VU S pack and now VZ. Utes are so much easier to get at fuel pump.

I didn't have any trouble with my fuel gauge in the vt or the vz really. Just the pumps died in both.
