@@Top_Secret_File Harrison Ford is my favourite actor, even this, may not be his best, but it's a cracking good movie, we didn't realise back then we were spoilt for choice and it wouldnt always be this way. The bit where they send the SAS in is mainly a group of men in suits sitting around a screen, but because the acting is there, less is better, we don't see much of the actual raid, noeadays that scene would cost millions

I would think so. Patrick Bergin's character probably had enough experience within the IRA to sense that Jimmy was going to double cross him so Kevin acted promptly, first getting Annette to lure Jimmy into the hotel room for sex where she proceeded to murder him and then taking care of the hitmen himself.

The clip here doesn't show it, but they nearly have a shouting match in the preceding scene (in the pub) when Kevin more-or-less makes it clear to Jimmy that the IRA are yesterday's news. It's both of them trying to one-up the other; Kevin knew once Jimmy told him about Charlie "coming over" that it was a death sentence, so he gives Annette the order to seduce him (via the look he gives her while leaving the pub). If anything, Jimmy was an idiot for telegraphing his move so transparently. Had he not said anything at all, and simply let Kevin leave without mentioning Charlie coming over, the movie would have played out very differently.

Just like Ray Liotta's character Henry Hill instinctively knowing, because he'd been a gangster most of his life that Jimmy (Jimmy Conway played by Robert Deniro) was gonna have him and his histrionic wife imminently wacked in the movie "GoodFellas". Same thing imho. The "Jimmy" in "Patriot Games" must have been one dumb bastard not to realize who he was dealing with.

Kevin’s faction carried out a hit on the royal family. It failed and one of his men was captured. He knew the IRA would likely distance themselves and eliminate him. When Jimmy said his enforcer Charlie was coming over in the night to talk, it confirmed his suspicions.

TankdozerCavalry The man who sent the three guys over to Kevin’s place was named Jimmy. When he told Kevin that Charlie and company were going to be paying him a visit Kevin knew they meant to kill him because they’d carried out the operation in London without the authorization of their Brigade Commander or the Army Council. So Kevin was ready and when Charlie and the other two men attempted to ambush Kevin it failed. The last thing Jimmy had told him at the pub was to “hold your temper”. So that’s why Kevin made that statement as he was leaving the house - it was a sort of verbal Fuck You to Jimmy.
