The lady had previously started it so my guess is oils in the engine still... would need to let it settle 20 mins after turning off to check level again ... at this price its an absolute baragain The 996 has recently been classified by Porsche now as classic car status so these are becoming collectable now... prices will only rise, the 997 is based on this same paltform albeit a c4s chassis but same engine etc just got round headlights so people loved it 😂 but its basicly same car underneath... so when look at it like that rhe 996 is an absolute steal...

Unreal value considering the history and receipts, i wonder why it ended up at BCA!? P.S I have stuck a 2001 C4 aero in my garage that has only 40k miles. I had a 996 C2 Cab from new for 3 years in 2003 and with hindsight it was wonderful. Sadly I used it everyday for 36 months as my DD and I got bored sick of it and was pleased to get rid of it. Seal grey, black roof, loads of extras and I picked it up from the factory in Germany (which you could in those days). I remember I felt like a dog with two d1cks driving it out of the factory and back home, I had made it. You are right, what a cool car they are now and if you can get the right one (C4S would be my pick), they will hold their value and give you many smiles per mile. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds over the next few weeks/months.

Great buy. The wheels are fantastic while you was driving the car the wheels look amazing.. The colour is really nice.. The only things what would worry me is the lack of oil also the ims Bearing.. But what a car for the money.. She could be a very very nice car once the work is carried out and the engine is fine.. Engine not using any oil And also ims bearing as been changed..
@sureshot839914 сағат бұрын
The IMS bearing is a concern whether the car is manual or tiptronic. They both have the same engine and it is an engine issue. With a tip though, both engine and transmission have to be removed to replace the IMS but with a manual only the engine needs to come out. Early 996s are less susceptible to IMS issues, but 2002 on are more so than 200/2001. Get it done and forget about it. It will be tougher to sell if not done though..

Very nice…… I’m a tad biased, my Turbo Coupe is the same year……… I love them, they are such good value. The engine can bite, but at that price you’re safe enough. The IMS bearing issue is a potential and nowadays, a fairly easy fix…… the gremlin is the bore coating or lack of, allowing potential bore scoring. However, I’m told it’s less common than the doomsayers say. I went the far more pricey route with the twin turbo, but ensuring no bore or IMS issues, as it uses a different engine. Again, it sounds great and well used is safer than a garage queen, in the long run 🙂🇬🇧🏁

I have a theory about service history. If I had a new car, or a used one, and I took it to reputable garages to get it serviced every year, but at the last service the spanner man said 'xxx is about to go bang and they cost £xxxx to fix' then I would sell it. The buyer would think 'Oh it's got a full service history, it must be ok', and buy it. I know someone who had a Ferrari, they had what they thought was a minor niggle with it, took it to an independent guy who told them to get rid of it pronto, as he knew that something expensive was about to fail. It had a flawless full service history.

Yes, seems a bit silly nothing on the dip stick and setting off, if we're going for a car that's an unknown quantity, it's oil, tools, jump pac, water, tow rope (!) I'd have topped up the power steering, I bet tbh rack is leaking. No oil means most likely it's being burnt. All that expensive work recently, points to the last owners garage saying get rid.
@JohnBaxendale5 күн бұрын
@@roystonvehicles9129 The dashboard oil check takes 60 minutes before it'll show an oil reading once the cars been started - so it's not logical to think a car that had just been started and driven would show any oil on the dipstick. If anything, he was stupid putting extra oil in it when it was showing good oil pressure (there's a gauge on the dash for oil pressure, alongside an oil warning light and the electronic gauge).
@roystonvehicles91295 күн бұрын
@JohnBaxendale if you wait a few minutes and check the dip stick on any engine it'll show the correct level, maybe electronic check takes ages, but dips tick doesn't. Any body with any mechanical simpathy wouldn't drive off if no oil was showing on the dip stick. Showing oil pressure means nothing as it'll show pressure with hardly any oil in. When we pick cars up (full time job) it's, oil, water, tow rope, tools, fluid, driving back with pas not topped up is a bit daft as well.

Love the 996... yours is the face lift though not original fried egg model... yours come clear with the r2d2 style washers in chrome... technicly these 996.2 are more prone to ims as has the revised 3.6 engine single row bearing (prev 3.4 dual row bearing) However ims is more blown out of proportion online than the real world... , failure rate on early dual row was around 1% and single row was about 11% (figures from the american class action lawsuit back when these were new) ironicly the problem seems to happen more often in early ownership and first 60k miles or with low mileage cars not being driven often... so you will find most that survive today will most likely either be pretty safe or have had new engines or upgraded bearings etc already... I have an early 3.4 already but feel tempted with yours still... assuming you decide to shift it on so i may have to pop up and have a little nose... im only down the road (SHADOW WORX) Oh a nice mod on the tiptronics is to convert the crappy buttons on wheel to flappy padels using merc ones and a manual wheel to mount them on/delete old buttons 😎👌
