I never see backup ropes in these videos. I don't know what I'm talking about regarding climbing etc, but it seems like redundancy when it comes to lifelines would've be passed by EVER Can someone tell me why I never see fail-safes etc in these videos? Are there even supposed to be them? What's the bottom 'line' pun intended?
@raul_jocson_
@raul_jocson_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@ClickClack_Bam 1) Ropes have weight and bulk that you have to consider when packing in to a remote location. 2) A second line adds complexity and possible confusion to the setup. 3) The climbing/caving reasoning is that you make sure your one rope is well within its use limits. And if it is, it's probably the safest link in the chain. Human error being the biggest risk. 4) You do see redundant lines in higher risk/dynamic activities like bungee and slack lining, but that's because the primary rope experiences more extreme and unpredictable forces.

For everyone wondering why there were no bones at the bottom. They wash away down that shaft during big rain storms. It looks like it leads to constant lower elevations. Meaning there may be a sub cave below that one, that's filled with water and whatever else.

I'll bet that is one scary place to be at the bottom of during a thunderstorm with a massive downpour. I think I'd personally want one or two guys up top watching everything at all times. In this day and age, some ahole living in the woods could stumble across the rope and take it off from the tree just to be a jerk and trap everyone down there. I like to have all of my bases covered for the "what if's" no matter how rare they could be in this crazy world. Crazier coincidences have happened.

The outside view reminds me of the entrance to the caves around Lake Purdy in Alabama. Just a hole in the ground - though these were marked with spray painted arrows pointing in. It was relatively safe in there, but there were some places you could fall into that you weren't getting out of without a rope. When I think of how many times my friends and I went in there in the '80s with just regular flashlights and no ropes, it almost freaks me out now.

Pit looks familiar. I did a bunch.of em and found several and many caves. Some major finds. Here something to help you. Stay clear falling rocks when on bottom. In the day and I still do from time to time use carbide. Let me tell you why. The crawl you did might not have been necessary if you had the lamp. You see you read the cave and follow the air. I discovered some major stuff by observing the 4" flame from the tip of the Lamp. It dances in air. By observing it you can tell many times if it is a dead passage. This pit looks familiar.. It isn't fantastic but 220 aint bad. Dig the light clean flowstone. It looked as though maybe some loose material at the entrance. I still have my rack and jumars from when they first came to use. Before that I taught body rappels and prusik knots. Still have some scars I suspect. I was the first to make my top brake bar 1.25" then a 1" then 4 standard 3/4" bars. Why, It better distributes the load on the rack and removes stress on the top bars. Much better on the rappel line. You should rappel gold line dear GOD not really. Spin like a top. I can't tell you a pit you should do here but it is 170 and at midd day has a solar spot light shining down a 12 foot diameter 20 foot shaft which bells out into a freefall into 300 foot diameter large chamber in which the sun produces a beautiful spotlight on the floor. Good Caving Be safe. Rig the line off any loose material and stay hidden at the bottom while others are descending. Ron T. NSS 15149

I really don't know what was scarier the repel or the climb back up, what a rush😁 Those formations look like they were made for a movie set, but it's all nature. The parts that really give me anxiety are the tight squeezes, I shouldn't have watched the Nutty Putty video, but I know if I'm seeing the video, you're ok. Being in the dark and listening to the water was so peaceful😌 Great video, stay safe guys 💖💖

Being of a twisted mind, if I was the first guy down I would have stuck a Pennywise mask in my bag and once I hit bottom, put on the mask and turned my light out and waited for my unsuspecting friend to get down there. Twisted, I know. Great video. I am struck by how long it took it took Mother Nature to make that. I grew up outside of Philly and the county seat (Norristown) was riddled with old limestone caves. During construction of the courthouse, they broke through into a massive cavern and a little ways away they built a shopping mall and the JC Penny store was built right over a huge cave. Once I found that out, I never went back to that mall again.

why do you think cave diving needs to be "scary"? I did some caving and all it was was joy, you just need to be careful about what you do, take care you dont slip and break an arm/leg, make sure you have batteries for the entire trip, and take care you dont get stuck! If you are not sure that you can come back up leave your friend up so he can go for help!

So I'm just wondering, are there any safety countermeasures incase of an accident? Like what if the rope somehow got cut? What if one of them really got stuck at 7:37? Or do they just take the risk and become SoL if anything happens?

It is a cavern that even though it’s open at the top it is so deep that light doesn’t penetrate. The whole formation was created by flowing water. The flowing rock formations were also created by.water depositing calcium minerals dissolved in the water. The smooth formations were also formed by standing water depositing calcium minerals. I note there do not seem to be any stalagmites or stalagmites which are found in more horizontal wet caves. Those passageways down there are way too narrow for anyone to get through.
@ActionAdventureTwins
@ActionAdventureTwins 2 жыл бұрын
we are not experts on the formation of caves but if our understanding is correct then the cave was formed underwater. a long time ago the water table was much higher and water would sit in a crack caused by a fault in the ground. the acidic water eats away at the rock then drains away to be replaced by fresh water and this process repeats for many years until the water table drops and once it does the cave stops forming in the same way and instead the rushing water is what starts to carve out the passages that have already been formed.

That’s a cool exploration, but man, when you start going through those tight areas that far down, it just freaks me out. Ever since that young man that was exploring those caves in Nevada or Arizona; maybe Utah, and got stuck upside down in there, I just get the creeps watching this stuff. I can’t remember the name of those caves that he got stuck in, but they sealed it off afterwards as I recall. Kudos to you guys for this!

In the early 1960s my parents bought a lot just north of Huntsville, Ala. where we lived. Daddy & my momma's cousin who was living with us while he interned at the engineering firm found a hole like this. The lot was on top of a mountain, limestone. A friend and fellow engineer was a member of the speleological society, he described and mapped, published in caving journal. Named after my brother. When rockfall was removed we were able to go down on rope ladders about 150 feet, 3 rooms. A second cave we found on the lot was registered, too, and named for me. Soon we and our friends were caving all over north Alabama. i

I only remember it vaguely, but he said we camped overnight in it once or twice . He still Iives in n. Alabama, I moved away in 1970. He was still caving long after that until he broke his leg way back in a long cave, his friends had to half-carry him out for hours, he probably weighed 250 lbs at that time.
