I understand completely CPG. I played a par three last week, and my ball stopped on the last location where the pin had been. I counted it as a hole in one as well!!

We had a guy buy drinks at the course last summer when he made a HIO on the 100 yard flag on the driving range! I see no real difference between that scenario and your HIO CPG! The drinks taste the same-GREAT!

Theoretically we are aiming to put the ball in the hole which is indicated by a flag. That the ball went into a hole without a flag means that it wasn't holed. He made a mistake by not placing the ball and putting to the hole which he was aiming at when on the tee.

I’ve been playing golf for 64 years and have never heard of two holes cut on a green and rotating pins. I’ve played high school and college golf. Also, have won two San Diego City Championships three club championships at Torrey Pines and three club championships at Balboa Park golf club. My uncle was head pro LA Country Club And my father was all Navy as a golfer. Never heard or have seen this anywhere.

Two hole locations on greens during the winter time in parts of the country where grass goes dormant because of cold weather or snow is common. Also, during the winter time, handicap posting comes to an end between November 1st and February 28th. The reason, not all things are equal when posting the score for that day if everyone isn’t playing the same course. Meaning the same teeing area’s or the same hole location, it’s not the same course being played by all participants. I would be thrilled to have hit the ball in the hole for a hole in one. But when we play money games, it’s the same hole for all groups playing. We don’t change holes until the last group finishes playing that hole. If my ball ends up two feet from the hole not in play, I still have to play the hole in play. The hole with the flag. I would congratulate myself for hitting the ball in the hole, but would not consider this a “Hole-in-One” because it was not the hole in play. Regardless if the flagstick was not moved between groups.

Tom, my wife is from California too. She doesn’t want to play unless it is 50 degrees or higher. The real reason golf courses put two holes on a course during the winter is because greens freeze. The amount of play can mean too much traction on the green. They cannot move the hole location. With the amount of snow and cold we have had this year I have only played once in January and no play in December. Envy your ability to play year round. Still don’t think this was a hole-in-one.
