Sometime in your life go to LA. Rent a car and drive up into Malibu Canyon from the 101 and up over the hills to look out over the pacific. Any of the roads down through Charmlee State Park or by Pepperdine University or Leo Carillio. I'm saying this as someone who grew up in LA and am currently sitting in London. I hate Los Angeles but at any given moment there are few places I dream about more. Don't go in summer as it's a flaming hellscape.

+Celio19891 I think I agree. The 60's were incredible in terms of innovation and the scope of what happened in 10 years -- but people were all over the map as far as what "popular music" meant and what they loved. The 90's were more focused because we'd already _had_ the 60's and 70's and 80's. It was like a distilling of what was really just *bad ass good.* But why the F did it have to stop? Why do we have the ClusterFuck that is today's popular music. Could we just nuke them all and start over?

I know that the hardocre fans of the band didn't like this era so much. But for me, at that time Hole had become such an amazing band, a shame that things went wrong after that. Celebrity Skin is such a great and mature album, it never gets old. You can feel every single identity of each one of the members in every song, and how they blend together in a rare chemistry. If you still play this record for someone 10 years from now they will never imagine it's a late 90's album.

@@Sunbeach7777 WOW! LOL!! BASIC, huh? Well, actually, I prefer to think of myself as a "free thinker", not one to just follow what the "crowd" does, says, or goes for or what the "crowd" may think of as basic. I am quite good , actually, at knowing when a person has "it", or something special, unique, etc. I'm pretty good at picking which songs will be above average hits, also. I pride myself on being able to ascertain details that others miss. All this being said, it's really just about loving or connecting with an artist or song. COURTNEY does have drug addict history, a famous musician husband who was very successful and equally troubled, which contributed even more to Court's history. BUT, that said, she also writes some pretty GREAT songs, with some deeply personal lyrics that she screams out from her very soul in pretty great melodies and harmonies. I wish I could write some " basic" frickin' songs like that and sing them like she does. I think she is very original, different, and honest in her music. Don't underrated her obvious talent because of some history she does or does not deserve. Just like her music or don't. She has many more fans than you say and rightly deserves. I heard your version, but just do not agree with it. Sorry, Hon. Don't underappreciate " Basic". There are thousands of musicians out there who wish to God they had a thimblefull of what you call Courtneys "basic" talents. Peace, Babe!

Back when I was still capable of pulling all-nighters, Celebrity Skin was a near-constant in the CD caddy, suppling background energy to combat my bleary coder vision. You had to earn one of those six coveted slots because who wants to get up and change anything, even in 1998? Malibu is among the most righteous rock confections of the 90s. A band at the height of its powers.
