Great ideal. One way to solve the problem of the weight drooping the bottom of the container. One thing is to find some left over cheap wood flooring ,and cut to size then lock together as you would on the floor, before putting them in the storage box to help evenly distribute the weight.

The the totes would experience impact load every time the bottom would be pulled out from underneath. The person doing the overhead work would become fatigued overtime with the additional processes added.

My bins like that, 17 gallon from Home Depot, get brittle and crack when exposed to heat. Those replaced a much better bin. You might see the old ones in the internet pictures if you look at the bottom. The bottoms had like a meandering channel. They are heavy. I have a dozen or so.

I'd take down those bins that are sagging and cut a piece of plywood for the bottom inside of each bin. It will take the stress off the unsupported middle of the bins that will likely split open at some point. I have some bins like that which I stored in the attic about 10 years ago, they were lightly loaded and stacked two deep. A few of them failed when the lids cracked and caved in. I then cut pieces of 1/4 inch plywood to over the bottom bin before stacking and the problem stopped happening. Now I just built wood bins with rollers on the bottom.

The thing about lumber is you can make everything much more robust for very little money. Why not go with a 4x4 for the carrier beam and 2x6s for the slide rails? Then you can pack more fasteners in without weakening the carrier beam. I want as much safety margin as practicable if I'm parking my car under 12 80lbs boxes of tools.

Polypropylene bins seem durable, but they are not unbreakable by any means. Those bins will crack due to age and exposure alone and will dump their contents onto your cars or workshop area. Also, you will become heartbroken when you find that the bins are no longer available in the same dimensions, much less capacity. It is entirely aggravating when you fall in love with a particular style bin and develop a shelving system to maximize your closet space, but can no longer find matching boxes to either add or replace cracked bins. That overloaded bin needs to be replaced with a half sized bin that uses the same lid. Also, overloaded bins will sag at the top opening and allow bugs to make great secluded nests.
