I am so glad to see someone doing some research on the older items. I cringe watching “influencers” paint everything white and ruining the value of older pieces. Thank you for adding this content today.

Hi, Teresa. I love today's video. I've used Citrus Strip and it is my "go to" stripper. You can get it from Home Depot too. I have some nutcracker that need to be repainted . Hopefully, I can get to them this year. TFS

Daughter, with oh Teresa, I completely understand. I always try to research and make sure that anything I find I don't destroy by painting it over and I have to agree. I think it looks so beautiful. Natural breath. Too many people just pick up a paint brush without doing any kind of research and I cringe at how many beautiful antique pieces of furniture and other decor items are destroyed forever because they don't take the time to learn. Thank you for showing us even the mistakes and encouraging us to always learn from them. Many blessings to you for thanksgiving my friend😊

Thanks for sharing the brass stripping advice. It'll be a life saver for some of us. I've seen some lovely vintage/antiques completely ruined by some ill-informed KZbinr "updating" what they call some old, tacky junk. I cringe every time I hear the someone say that something they found is nasty or tacky and I've called some DIYers out for it. One day their creations won't be prized by a new generation and I'm sure it'll hurt to have people laugh and pick their taste apart.

I’ve used CitriStrip on numerous projects (removing old paint from doors, dressers, etc). One thing that will help to keep it from drying out it to wrap your project with Saran Wrap. Make sure the Saran Wrap is in full contact with your project and it won’t dry out.

My Grandmother had those same umbrella holders with matching floor lamps. [ There was also a tall floor "Fountain Lamp". (I remember it had oil not water, the oil ran down string like rain drops and the base lit up) For the life of me I can't remember her or my Great Aunts ever even talking about what store they went to for home decorating. She absolutely loved her living room. Had to have been from a JC PENNY Catalog or The Sears Building in the City. I saved a chandelier, & 2 huge Dry wall buckets full of Brass Door knobs, wall fixtures,fireplace mantle edges, even her light switch plate covers. Plant hangers. Most of it been spray painted in a Black Matte`or a shiny metallic "copper". I'm trying this paint removal first thing after Sunday Service tmrw. Literally spent last 2 days cleaning out house, shed- throwing out everything I've had boxed , stored up for Lord knows how long. That is insane the dollar value on those umbrella holders. Id never sell anything but I sure am going to try, restore them and put in my front room. Thank you very very much for posting your video.

Thank you for your information on how to clean brass. I have a box full of various brass items. (Vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda). I drove by a pile of wood planks on side of the road at the curb of a house a little while ago. On the main 4 lane road through the city. I did not stop. It is to dangerous during this time. Everyone getting off work and going out to eat.

Try the spray Citristrip sometime. It's a little less of a mess. If your Citristrip ever does dry, it's ok. You can add some mineral spirits to a scrubby pad and remove it. It works just as well. In fact, when using spray Citristrip I often spray a piece, leave it overnight to dry, and then go after it with mineral spirits and # 0000 steel wool pads and it works just as well. I've never used it on metal, only wood furniture. Another way to remove paint from metal is to heat it on the stove on low in water with a little dawn dish soap. The paint falls right off. You would need a mighty big pot to use this method on an umbrella stand, though! 😆
@treshamassey804 Жыл бұрын
I have done the same removing old paint from metal hardware. I just put the hardware in water, bring it to a boil, turn it down and let it stay hot and the paint just peels off! Also, put your item in a crockpot and leave it. Works great!

You always inspire me but the nutcracker make over is just what I needed. I have a box full of really big but dated nutcrackers painted in the traditional Christmas colors. I 70'swould never have imagined that the brass umbrella stand was worth so much! I love that you left the little iron as it was & just tied some adorable decorations on it. I enjoy things that have a story to tell & appreciate people who respect that. You are always so careful to say if something is really old or if it's just a nice repro, like Roger's mug---wonder what he did to get that?
