What is known as "Christmas"/"The holiday season" today is much closer to the Pagan Saturnalia than to the Christian Feast of the Nativity of the Lord.

Had a Christmas in northern Spain & recall the shops had lots of small holy ( Christian ) figurines for sale at that time so possibly a relic going back?.

You have improved since your humble beginnings in sound and video capture and editing, also your oratorio skills are great now.

Why was the Titan Saturn such an important god in Rome while his Greek counterpart Chronos was insignificant?
@bdugan764011 ай бұрын
Zeus really & truly overthrew his father Cronus, a Titan. This was so his brothers & sisters could be freed from their prison in their father's stomach. Only their sister Aphrodite was born from their grandfather's, Uranus's severed genitals, that Cronus threw into the sea. Thus Aphrodite was named "The Foam Born One". Cronus wound up in Tartarus & other Titans were caged in special prisons; the ones who didn't side with the Olympian Gods. Hades was the keeper. The Olympian Gods were in charge & humans were expected to worship only them. Romans were more flexible regarding gods & made room for foreign ones. The general consensus was as long as the new cult 😊prayed for the well being of the SPQR it was fine. Cursing 😮the SPQR & spreading sedition brought the law down on the cult - exile & banning of the cult. Plus death by crucifixion & estate confiscation. Later the requirements were praying for the health of the empire, the imperial family & success in military campaigns. Plus asking for the gods's aid in all things, etc, etc, etc. 😊 Just to cover all the minutia of a successful empire. So, the more gods to help, the more things covered. 😁

A Roman might feel quite familiar with the modern December madness. Although I think they would balk at how little partying we do.

Mi sono perso i Saturnalia domenica...peccato!

Sounds good to me. The fact that Roman Christians co-opted Saturnalia and turned it into a Christian holiday does not mean they are celebrating Saturnalia.

There was never a Christian nativity observance. Christendom the Bible's false friend. Apostasy took hold after the death of the 'restraint' which was the Apostles and disciples of JC. together with people who knew the holy writings. 2 Thessalonians 2:7; 1 John 4:3 . Approx 98ce. Suitable pagan festivals were co-opted by the church to attract converts.
