I have such a fond memory of my grandmother Eva Allan and I using gingerbread dough to make "Hand Cookies." We would decorate the fingers w candy jewelry, etc. We would use sprinkles and frosting to make rings, bracelets,, fancy nails. We would roll the dough put and then trace our hands and cut them out. I was about 4 or 5 at the time. I loved her so much. She died when I was 9 and I'm 55 now! Love you Paula!!

I love these videos! I look forward to them. My husband is at work, the kid is upstairs doing schoolwork and I'm downstairs watching Paula Deen. Doesn't get much better than that! I had a great-aunt(who was more like a grandmother to me) reminds me so much of Paula! My great-aunt passed away 7 years ago. She had a laugh just like Paula Deen. My recipe came from a Brer Rabbit golden molasses bottle in the sixties! Melted butter dark brown sugar, molasses , cloves,ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon. Mine is not too sweet and has a ‘bite’ to it . I always decorated them with white ornamental clothes! The frosting adds just the right amount of sweetness!

I have an old recipe printed in a local newspaper. No eggs or ginger. I just do gingerbread boys because that's what I grew up with. After they bake, I slather each with lemon flavored glaze head to toe and each gets a cinnamon candy heart. They taste best about a week after making them, so they are the first cookies I make each year. I made 62 of them Saturday. I won't be seeing my family, but my cookie baskets will be on their way to my daughter's home via the post office, and we'll do a zoom meeting.

Hi PaulaI I've been making gingerbread boys for more than 18 yrs for my grandbabies to take to school. One tip I'd like to share with you is don't refrigerate too long and roll dough out on two pieces of parchment then do the cutouts on the bottom parchment, then remove the excess dough from around the cutouts, slide the cutouts on the parchment paper on to a cookie sheet freeze for a few minutes to stiffen then remove and place in baking pan. Trust me best and easiest way. The highest amount I would make at one time is around 60!

I roll my cookies between two pieces of parchment paper. Wax paper works too. Or even plastic wrap. Not much extra flour needed when using parchment paper. So they dont get tough from too much flour. I do this with my shortbread, my sugar cutout cookies, all of em.

The people who won’t share recipes are very selfish people. It should be viewed as a compliment when somebody asks for a recipe. My sister-in-law wasn’t a cook but she had a great dill dip recipe and she refused to give me the recipe and now she is dead, she died very young in her sleep. She gave it to my other brothers wife and she died too so both of my sisters-in-laws who had the recipe are dead so I guess I’m glad she never gave it to me. My daughter loved it and so did I and we would have remembered them fondly every time we made it but now we don’t make it or think of either of them. I don’t have any good memories of them, it’s sad really. I wanted a sister and I only had two brothers who are stinkers too. I always gave any of my recipes to anybody who wanted them.

Paula, yesterday I watched the "Arne and Carlos" KZbin video on baking gingerbread cookies. Their recipe came from a Norwegian cookbook that looked vintage. You might take a look at the video (December 11, 2020), because the recipe seems like a real classic that might be what you're looking for in a new recipe. The dough is very sturdy. Arne and Carlos live in Norway, not far from Lillehammer.

Dear Paula, I love watching you during this trying times and the Corona virus. I have fun making recipes from the Disney world recipes. There are two versions of gingerbread recipes for Disney. One is from Disneyland at Magical Recipes and the other is from the Grand Floridian Disney world gingerbread house at Pinterest. I prefer the one from Disney world Pinterest. Thank goodness for Trader Joe's and the wonderful Christmas specialty items that they sell between Thanksgiving and Christmas. You wouldn't know it was Christmas in the regular grocery stores in my area this year. Minimal effort, nothing special. Years ago those same stores were full of festive holiday treats and decorations.
