I noticed that in the calendar you shared (thank you so much for it and for everything you do!) Every month starts on the new moon day, but in Ancient Greece (according to the most frequent opinion based on written sources) each month started on Noumenia which actually is not the day of the new moon. It is the first day (or rather evening) when the Moon starts to be seen after the new moon, and it is usually 1 or 2 days after the actual new moon day; so, for example, the start of the New Year (1 of Hecatombaion) in 2022 will be on 1 of July and not on 29 of June as it is stated in that calendar and so on…

Yeah I think their calendar was a day off this year iirc. They also go by the new moon date in Athens which can shift things slightly

oh hey i am from greece and it does get quite cold in the winter which makes it difficult to celebrate outside, although today was sunny where i live
@FeltheBlithe2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah! It definitely gets very cold in certain parts of Greece from my understanding, but Athens-where most of our recon calendar comes from-to my understanding does not get as cold as, say, New England, most of the time at least

I've heard southern California is fairly similar to Athens in terms of weather patterns

Sometimes it snows in Athens! It gets cold, yes.

for the most part athens doesn get as cold as eperus and northern Greece, however the hillside subburbs are a different story and often transport and electricity are cut by snow and extreme weather. Any mountainus region gets bellow 0 in winter fairly often and th island have a painfull combination of mildly cold but extreemely humid weather that makes it feel 10 times worse than Athens. That said, i bet most parts have a relatevely milsd winter compared to the rest of the balkans, central and northern europe and canada. Also the discriptions of winters by my grandma are a complete other beast - proof that climate change is real.

I live in NZ and yeah it’s super hot right now. I celebrate the Aphrodisia on the summer solstice which for me was last week. I also celebrate the day I devoted myself to Aphrodite.

What is the reconstructed Athenian calendar? Is it the same as the attic calendar?
