I'm boarding the Kiningsdam in just 2 days headed to Hawaii. I sailed on her in the Carribean for New Year's 2019. HAL is my favorite cruise line, and the Music Walk is a big part of my evenings.

Just sailed on her for Ca coast trip April 2024. Loved the ship so much we canceled a 14 day Alaska trip to do 18 days on her to Hawaii. We love HAL and always book Neptune suite. April trip we did an Aft Neptune and enjoyed the views. Just a long way away from a lot of stuff. Thanks for sharing

I’m thinking about taking this cruise for an Alaskan trip. Is this cruise more suited for the older crowd?
@fluffytail63552 ай бұрын
Yes and no. Short answer: Alaska in June, July and August will be a multigenerational crowd as Holland America (HAL) has recently rebranded to attract a wider variety of passenger ages and most Alaskan itineraries are about 7 days, which most passengers can accommodate with a vacation schedule. This is great for grandparents who want to travel with their children and grandchildren! However, HAL has several longer itineraries - that most working people can’t accommodate with limited time off or don’t want to take kids on because of the length - then the guests will be an older demographic. Retirees in general have more time and money to cruise than do parents or working people, so the longer the cruise, the more grey hair you’ll see. Also, Alaska destined cruise ships don’t have waterslides, skating rinks, dry slides, flow riders or those types of outdoor activities that competition mega ships so not many amenities for kids, but there are several outdoor pools (some that completely close so you can enjoy even if the weather is cool). Koningsdam specializes in Alaska and spends a full 8 hours at the glacier head - longest in all the market! Koningsdam also has pickle ball courts and large indoor fitness area that caters to adults. Without a big array of facilities, the passengers tend to be older even if they’re active. Why do I tell you this? You will see more “mature” passengers on this itinerary in May and September (shoulder season) than in the summer when kids are out of school when people of all ages will be traveling with family members, and with limited activities on board - that mostly cater to music lovers (blues, classic rock, etc) - there’s not much to entertain kids or families so depending on when you cruise, there is most certainly a more mature crowd.

This sounds like a computer generated voice over from the HAL website description…
