Wonderful tour. We are booked on the Rotterdam next June for a jaunt through the fjords. We did the Koningsdam in Norway a few years back and said between a wonderful ship and the most gorgeous scenery, we have to do it again.

Hi Chris! We're considering booking the Rotterdam for my birthday cruise to the ABC (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) islands.. might as well go Dutch to the Dutch Antilles.. Did you appreciate the Dutch culinary touches? Did you appreciate the cabin (thinking of Balcony or Mini-Suite)? We actually were on the previous Rotterdam in 2005 to the Panama Canal... We were among the youngest and our daughter WAS the entire Kid's Club HAL.. she had her own personal counselor.... what did you think of the MDR compared to Princess or NCL (Carnival's needs some work and that's why they hired Emeril)... The theater looks traditional but very tech savvy.... overall, has HAL upped its game? I know my wife will absolutely love the extensive library!

Hi Ari, I'm a huge fan of the newer HAL ships. Yes, the are much smaller than most other lines, but they make up for it in their level service and onboard offerings. The Dutch influence in cuisine is not that prevalent in the menus, aside from specialty items and what is offered in the Grand Dutch Cafe. Food in all venues was excellent. I love the room features, especially the gorgeous bathrooms. Not sure if the mini suites are really worth the extra cost, but they do provide a little more space. When you combine the quality of the included dining (lido market buffet, Dive In Burger, NY Pizza & Deli), entertainment options (Rolling Stone Rock Room, Billboard Onboard), beautiful interiors, and great crew, I think HAL has done an amazing job keeping up with other cruise lines.

@@TalkingCruise It seems that HAL has stepped up their game, since 2005 when we were on the prior Rotterdam.. It looks like an awesome ship.. Pretty sure we’ll book her for my birthday.. also my wife has been disappointed with ship libraries. This one won’t disappoint her. The Big Theater dance show was lame. Better to book comedians or have a more dynamic music/singing show. The other music venues were great, they should nail down the niche as a music oriented cruise. That was a fantastic library that will appeal to the 30% of adults that read books

Was there live music in the main theatre? Not on the Nieuw Statendam when we were there. Also in every venue on the music deck, accompaniment was too loud so that the performers could be hardly heard. We were very disappointed and vowed to never again sail on Holland America!

now, let's be honest. You know where they got that idea from with the panels on the wall in the theater for a more immersive show Royal Caribbean quantum class. they were the first to do that. they stole that idea because Royal's so good. stay loyal or royal 🎉🎉

The Royal ones are just mostly on the side of the screen though, similar to Celebrity’s Edge class (since they’re the same parent company). These ships have more screens that really do surround you, though yeah I can see the similarities lol. HAL improved on the idea I guess..

Hi cruise addiction's, certainly there were quite a few, however, the average age of a Holland America cruiser has dropped significantly over the last decade. You can see in the design and amenities on their newer ships that they are trying to reach a more diverse group of guests.
