HOLLANDSE WATERLINIES: Fort Vechten in Utrecht

The most ingenious defense system that was never used: De #HollandseWaterlinies
Throughout #TheNetherlands a system of dams, forts and waterlocks was build for protection. If enemy forces would attack, the Dutch would just open the floodgates and submerge the lands outside of the damms so enemy forces couldn't move so easily anymore, basically turning them into sitting ducks.
#Utrecht was part of this national defense system, more specifically the Fort Vechten. A really cool and interactive museum where we learned everything about the hollandse waterlinies .
Worth a visit!
Before leaving the city we had a beautiful lunch at sustainable restaurant #stadsjochies. A delish way to end our day in Utrecht. 😉
