Two things for people to consider when installing the progressive link. First, be sure the secondaries are remaining 100% closed at idle. In some cases the vacuum at idle can crack the secondaries open just a bit and cause a high idle. If this happens, you can add 1 turn to the spring on the secondaries to solve that problem. The second thing to remember is that if you are running a vacuum advance distributor, you can no longer use the ported vacuum tap. You will have to go to manifold vacuum because the ported vacuum is ported to the secondaries, and you will not get a vacuum signal until 40% throttle, rendering that port useless.

I think the better solution to solve the sensitive throttle, leaving the progressive alone and ordering, 20-16 Sniper EFI Throttle Lever. This changes the pivot point of the throttle cable. I just did mine last week. It was night and day. I was afraid to drive the truck prior to this as throttle was extremely sensitive.
@MoonBuiltGarage Жыл бұрын
That is an option...I actually ordered both, but decided to try the linkage first...I may still play around and try the throttle lever to compare the two

My transmission valve cable from the sniper was not adjusted properly. Cooked the trans. New trans , spent time fine tuning the tv cable. Shifts ok now, however the sniper bog's down. Doing my head in, so going to a professional tuner. I do like the cold start with EFI.

I have a sniper on my car. I bought one of those progressive linkages but never installed it. I was afraid it would cause a tuning issue. I did get one of those throttle extensions because the pedal is hard to press and it only helped a little. Your video has got me to thinking about installing that progressive linkages again. No telling where I put it though. LOL

Since Holley owns MSD I'm sure they are probably pretty similar. Plus, I was curious and went to Holley to look at the Atomic EFI, and they now have the Atomic 2, which looks even more like the Sniper, especially in the controller and the way they packaged everything into the throttle body just like the Sniper. Even the price points are almost identical....

Did you have to change your distributor vacuum line to go to manifold vacuum? The company that sells the progressive linkage says it will not work if distributor vacuum is in the sniper unit itself. Reason being is the vacuum works off of the secondaries and if they don't open right away then it messes things up.

I havent had any issues leaving a stop sign slowly with the 400sbc in my 3rd gen Camaro that has 3.73s and the stock throttle linkage on the Sniper unit. With the progressive linkage you do lose a bit of power because only one set of butterflies are opening until you get to 30%(ish) throttle. I think it's worth trading more power for a bit less fuel mileage
@MoonBuiltGarage2 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed any loss of power...one set of butterflies opening at first is just like a normal carb...I would think it is just the opposite, with both butterflies opening together at low rpm you are more likely to give the engine too much fuel, causing a rich condition or even flooding the engine
@Wilson_Racing2 жыл бұрын
@@MoonBuiltGarage double pumper holleys should open all 4 barrels at once, I had one before I swapped to EFI. I dont have any rich conditions when I floor it from a dead stop but I have the Hyperspark system too, my car didnt take long to tune and it runs great without progressive linkage. Any rich or flooding conditions would be tune related and the self learn should fix that. I had nothing but issues with the external fuel pump Holley provided and went through three of them before going upgrading to a in-tank 525LPH pump and Holley HydraMat. I had the external pump below the tank and as close as possible but it kept aerating the fuel and wore the pumps out.
@CoroPlanesLLC Жыл бұрын
There is no difference in power. You just have to push the pedal down a bit more. Your engine does not care if you have 1, 2, or 4 butterflies. All it knows is how much air and fuel is coming in. If 4 butterflies open 3% gives you x amount of power; you may have to go to 5% or 8% to get the same amount of air to make the same amount of power. The bottom line is you need a certain CFM of air and the proper AFR.

@michaelhale4918 Жыл бұрын
You have to be careful what you are telling people! When you install that linkage, you also have to change the enrichment table along with it. If you look down into secondaries even with your wizard programmed, they are still dumping fuel, doesn't matter if they are open or not. You have to program the unit not to dump fuel till the tps gets to the desired percentage. It's called acceleration enrichment correction.

Don’t know if you fixed your trans problem or not. I rebuilt transmission for almost 40 years and in my experience with the Chrysler old units came down to the toque converter clutch comes apart and clogged the return oil from the cooler. The first place it goes is to the old. With no lube oil going back to the transmission you have a meltdown.
@MoonBuiltGarage Жыл бұрын
Seems like the trans is working well. I haven't heard of the torque converter problem
@michaelmutphy9077 Жыл бұрын
@@MoonBuiltGarage sounds good. That generally happened when the converter bolts were to long. They would bottom out and dimple the converter where the lockup clutch engages causing a chatter on engagement. Then the lining would come apart and clog the cooler.
